Equal Opportunities and Diversity Policy
Diversity - Our Policy
Rowan Ecology & Education Support embraces the diversity of its staff and clients and is dedicated to creating a
working environment in which diversity makes a positive contribution to achieving organisational goals.
Rowan Ecology & Education Support aims to achieve and carry out the highest levels of best practice in
diversity.
To achieve this we will:




Strive to provide equal opportunities for our staff and clients;
Value and respect diversity by acknowledging and celebrating differences;
Recognise that everyone has a contribution to make; and
Aim to ensure that all staff, clients, Trustees, volunteers, member and non-member organisations and individuals
with whom we have contact will be treated fairly and in an unbiased way.
Rowan Ecology & Education Support is committed to taking action to promote equality and to value diversity and
will work to address unfair treatment, discrimination and prejudice where found within the workplace and in its
work in the sector. We will work both within the current legislative framework and to promote best practice.
Rowan Ecology & Education Support 's Vision, Mission and Values statement reinforces the importance the
organisation places on fairness, diversity and equal opportunities. It is expected that these beliefs will therefore
underpin all areas of our work.
How Our Process and Procedures will ensure Diversity
Induction, Training and Development
Rowan Ecology & Education Support believes that all staff should have access to appropriate induction and
development opportunities in order to carry out their jobs successfully and to be able to contribute as widely as
possible to the positive achievements of the organisation. The provision of induction, training and development
will be made transparent and fair to all staff. Rowan Ecology & Education Support will do that by:






Informing and explaining the Diversity Policy and Procedures to staff when they join the organisation;
Providing information and training to all staff on a regular basis to promote the understanding of and Rowan
Ecology & Education Support 's commitment to equality and diversity;
Ensuring that all staff are aware of the training and development opportunities that are open to them and are
encouraged to develop themselves;
Monitoring training and development activities to ensure equality of access across all staff groups;
Recognising an understanding of, and commitment to, diversity as a specific competence; and
Ensuring that development and performance management activities such as appraisal are transparent and based
on competence.
Bullying, Harassment and Grievances
Staff have a right to work in an environment free from prejudice and harassment. Any employee who feels that
they have been treated unequally will be taken seriously and may use the Grievance procedure. Any staff found
to have harassed or abused an employee will be disciplined.
Challenges / Complaints Under this Policy
All staff should be treated with dignity and respect at work. All individuals should feel able to challenge issues
around diversity as long as the challenge is addressed in an appropriate and constructive way.
