SHSAA AGM Highlights Concerns RE: basketball The motion to have start and end dates and maximum number of games puts everyone on an equal playing field *Every single sport has a defined start date, and you will not play more than a defined number of games This is in place in 2014- 2015 Coach Education and the SHSAA: Bright Pink poster. iii. Respect in Sport Action Plan iv. Non Faculty Coaches & (2014 Expectations) v. Provincial Track & Field – Gutheridge Field 2014: Will keep the work list the same as last year. June 6 & 7 Some of the districts have taken the courses during the PD days in August. The courses: SI AAA 502 and 501 can help you to eventually become athletic directors: Sask. has developed 3 courses. They bring in instructors: there are 5 people trained to teach the course. They can be brought in for an afternoon. The courses can be transfereed to a university certification. Cost $75.00 per delegate Let Roger Morgan know if you are interested. vi. www.scdaa.ca our district website is updated. Reports from the last couple of years have been added. If we are missing anything let R. Morgan know. We would like to have a central location to post and look for tourmaments in our district. Can then refer to it if we are doing forward planning. LARRY: presented MJ League Schedules vii. Volleyball Tournament Listings c. LEADS Representative (Derrick Huschi) Provincial track. Concern Re: the amount of staff needed to run provincial track. Jewelry: guidelines for K – 12 Change RE: Prairie South New guideline allows for unobtrusive clear plastic retainers for curricular only. (This does not affect extra curricular sports, they continue to follow the SHSAA policies). Changes in bussing travel in the winter. When transportation cancels they are done, teams do have the opportunity to use private vehicles. The coach has to make a decision on wheather they still want to go and then with discussion with ( The order of communication/permission Coach, Principal, Larry S. and Roger M. then to D. Huschi. ( Highway condtions change by the hour, so when the busses are cancelled early in the morning, doesn’t mean that they aren’t safe for travel later in the day). They are working with the transportation department. ( 3 different groups) Briefly review our substitute teacher use for extra curricular sports. All substitute costs are decentralized. Question: When 3 Peacock teachers are creating the course for South Central should Peacock have to pay for 3 subs from their budget when it is for the beneifit of all. Derek acknowledged that there are a few exceptions like this that he will look at being covered centrally. These meetings are being covered centralized Regionals, conferences and Provincials Derrick will check to see who is e covering these costs. d. Trustee Representative (Al Kessler) regrets Thanks to everyone, we appreciate the wonderful job you do with our student athletes. 6. Old or unfinished business: All blue pages in the package needs to be filled in and returned to Roger Morgan asap a. *Coaches Directory Please (return updated list to Roger Morgan by Sept 15. ) b. Updated Constitution: posted on the website c. *Host Site Confirmation for SCDAA Championships (Rotation) i. Assign new track & field dates Discussion: Can we figure out a way to include the 3000 on the track day. Drive to Moose Jaw twice , or the North can bring their top 3 in each division and gender. Motion to change all the track dates as listed on the hand outs Holzer/Kitts CARRIED ii. Add Commissioner’s names 7. Fall Sport Updates a. Volleyball Leagues – to be discussed at section meetings b. Grass Golf i. Provincials Grass Golf – Sept 27/28, 2013 @ Goodsoil ii. Sand Golf Provincials – Sept 27/28, 2013 @ Frontier iii. Provincial Accommodations (Roger Morgan) We have Goodsoil booked ( cabins at the golf course), tee times for Thursday morning and a 12 passenger van leaving out of MJ. Plan to be on the road by 4:00 it’s a good 7 -8 hour drive. iv. District Golf – Assiniboia (South East) Bantam district golf: Elbow is no longer available: option change to the Thursday (need subs), run bantam and senior on the same course (not a lot of support for this suggestion), look for another golf course available on a Sat. Craik and Moose Jaw, either the Hillcrest or Lynbrook. We could book it in at either of the two courses. Bump it to the following weekend when the seniors are at provincials. v. Limit the amount of bantams that move on from sectionals. Either need to change the date or the venue What about the par 3 in Moose Jaw? The north should make a decision on the course they want to go to. Look for the Saturday at the Hillcrest or run it on the Thursday at Elbow. vi. Reminder – grade 9 athletes must declare whethere they are a Senior or Bantam c. Cross Country i. District Meet (Renee Verge) ii. Provincials – Saturday, Oct 12, 2013 (it’s the long weekend) @ Medstead (5 hour drive) iii. Accommodation have been booked and Transportation to Provincials (Larry S/RogerM) iv. Should we use a bus? If there is a bus available there is no other mileage cost available. We are the only school division that come in school busses, not coaches, and its very uncomfortable for that long of a trip. The school board would pay for a school bus cost, and put it towards the cost of a coach and then schools/athletes would pay the difference. Renee will look into the cost of bussing by coach. d. *Volleyball – determine SCDAA conference hosts i Determine SCDAA conference hosts ii Inconsistency of setting off the serve rule. For now bantams cannot set off the serve in South Central districts the exception being Moose Jaw. e. Soccer & Football n/a (playoffs run through leagues) f.
