Side event on: Current challenges to Media Regulation in the Southern Mediterranean 2 May 2015, Riga, Latvia Programme This side-event on Media Regulation will gather regulatory institutions, law makers and experts from the Southern Mediterranean region to discuss current challenges facing media regulation in the region, present best practices and cooperate with those countries that are currently working on the creation of regulatory bodies. The event will also form an informal network of regulatory institutions the MedMedia project will support. 10am: Welcome and introductory speech by Mr. Josep Maria Carbonell. Regional/National challenges for media regulation. In this panel delegates will show particular challenges that media regulation is facing in their countries or in the MEDA region as a whole. We will see how some issues are strongly related with national contexts while other issues are in fact more connected to regional trends. To conclude, it will be seen how the MedMedia can contribute to future cooperation on the several issues introduced by delegates.
