Peru Adventure Philanthropy Expedition
Class III-IV Whitewater Rafting + 3-day Sustainable Volunteer Build
Day 1: Arrival in Cusco
We’ll meet in the charming, cobblestoned former Inca capital city, Cusco. For dinner, we’ll head
out to enjoy good local restaurant for a fun, hearty dinner together with local wines and cuisine.
Day 2: Cusco to Apurímac River & begin rafting adventure (Whitewater/wilderness day 1)
We leave early for the 4-5 hour drive to our rafting access point on the Apurímac River. Plan on
about 3 hours on the water. After pulling up to our campsite, you have time to explore, chill,
read, write in your journal, talk with the crew or all the above. Dinner will be before nightfall, and
then it’s a warm campfire evening listening to the quiet roar of the river from inside your
spacious 2-person tent.
Day 3: Rafting Class III-IV Rapids on the Apurimac River (Whitewater/wilderness day 2)
The first full day of rafting. The river enters a truly impressive steep sided gorge where we are
forced to make one short portage before running many excellent class III and IV rapids. We
also stop and explore Colonial bridges and hike to waterfalls.
We beach for lunch, take some sun, relax, get to know our expert raft and scout crew, and eat
well. At night, we pick another vast deserted sandy beach and set up camp. Dinner is fireside or
in a large mess tent, at a secluded sandy camping area.
Day 4: Rafting Class III-IV Rapids on the Apurimac River (Whitewater/wilderness day 3)
Our third day on the river and our second full day of rafting. The canyon walls rise before us as
we continue paddling along our roughly 50-km route. Lunch on another secluded sandy beach.
Dinner at fireside at our campsite.
Day 5: Conclude rafting & transfer to Ollantaytambo (Whitewater/wilderness day 4)
Our fourth and final day on the river. We cruise more Class II, III and IV rapids for half a day
before exiting the river at our pick-up point. Lunch under an open-air hut by the river. After the
river, we’ll drive to the Andean hilltown at or near where we’ll complete our volunteer project, for
a hot shower, hotel bed and celebration dinner out.
Day 6-8: Volunteering (A 3-day sustainable build – a playground, a greenhouse, etc.)
Turn the positive energy from exploring wild South American whitewater toward giving back,
which will, btw, make you feel better than just about anything ever: volunteering a short amount
of time to create sustainable good for an indigenous community in the Andean foothills.
You’ll be able to take a picture of what you helped build, alongside native peoples. It’s an
amazing feeling. Past volunteer projects include building first-ever playgrounds for Quechua
school children; building a weaving center from traditional materials for Quechua women
weavers; and constructing a greenhouse in a rural community, to allow people to grow

nutritious, green vegetables.
Day 9: End of expedition
Our adventure philanthropy expedition concludes.
You may plan to explore to the incomparable Machu Picchu, a short train ride away. We can
help book your tickets or guide you there.
Wherever you’re headed, you’re now also packing a huge new accomplishment, email
addresses of your expedition mates, and proud memories that will always stay with you.
Well done.
(Please note: This itinerary can be customized to suit your group’s needs. Just ask!)
