Opening – Laura Kroboth.
The meeting was called to order at 6:35pm by Laura Kroboth. A
quorum was present. Binders were presented to each Board memberdiscussion of binders followed.
Principal’s Report – David Yaffie.
Introduction of new principal, J.J. Roberts.
Mr. Yaffie invited Chris Freeman to speak about the STAAR
accountability ratings.
Chris Freeman.
Accountability system has changed. Schools are compared to 40 other
“like” schools (based on demographics). Baines received an “Algebra”
Distinction. Ratings: Met Standard or did not Met Standard plus
possibility to get “Distinctions”. The new system will measure
student growth.
1st Vice Presidents – Melinda Slauson & Sandy Lapp (not present).
Spirit Wear: Working on new spirit wear designs. Orders for spirit
wear will be mostly online-small inventory. Two days of spirit wear
sales this week total over $900.
Capital Campaign: discussion of ideas to get the word out. Goal
$20,000
School Store: School store will be open 2 mornings a week-Tuesdays
& Thursdays 7:50-8:50AM. No more trinkets, goal is more “school”
items.
Amazing Race/Field Day Event: Spring Event. If you have any ideas,
give Melinda or Sandy a call.
Paypal has been set up; however, payment for spirit wear will go
through the online company we are using. Pay Pal will be used for
Marquee Messages, Cap Campaign & Directory Ads.
2nd Vice President – Dana Jorsling-Wilson.

Membership & Community Development – Beth Shields & Suzanne
Villarreal.
If you give any amount of money to the PTO, you will be a PTO
member.
Nothing new on track. The LID is going to an architect for
ideas/drawings.
Flyer for Directory Ads going home in BOY packets. Art Contest
discussed for the cover of the directory. Contest will kick off
mid November and will be open to BMS students. The contest will be
publicized through school media.
Treasurer – Laura Campbell.
Detailed Financial Procedures distributed and discussed. Please read,
sign & return the Acknowledgment of BMS PTO Financial Procedures
form on or before the next meeting (September 10th).
Board to decide our 2 tax free event dates…TBD
Secretary – Trina Padilla-Matta (Not Present).

Publicists – Jen Rizzo & Mary Jane de Tranaltes.
New website was shown and discussed. Should be up & going next
week.

at bmsptopublicity@gmail.com. Info for Longhorn Links should be
submitted to Jen by 5pm on Thursday. Goal is to send out LL by
1:00 pm on Friday.
VIPS – Tracy Donovan & Cynthia Balaski.
Sept. 4th @ 9:30am is the VIPS coffee. Board members who should
attend: Fundraising, Staff Appreciation…also Career Day, Shared
Dreams and anyone needing volunteers.
Criminal History Applications-make sure to complete these online.

Poster Making 101
“Thank you” for the poster maker. The staff is very excited.
Guidelines and rules for STAFF not yet determined. PTO
Board Members may use now, you must sign in and out in black binder
located under the computer hooked up to machine. Tutorial Disc and
poster software also in the binder and can be be signed out.
Old/New Business.
Audit – Suzanne is still looking for some volunteers.
School Spirit Days – Fridays. Discussion of ways to add more school
spirit…pep rallies, question of the week…
Orientation – still need some parent volunteers for the parent panel
for 6th grade orientation
Information Sheets for packets for Welcome Back Breakfast – Info
from VIPS, PR, Fundraising, Staff Appreciation & Membership due to
Laura K. by August 16th.
Beginning of Year Packet (BOY) – Packet stuffing on Monday, August
19th @ 9AM
Nutritional Guidelines – form must be filled out for each event where
food is served.
