»The Future of the City«
If you are a student in year 12 and interested in how decisions are
made about scientific, technological and political questions, why
not apply to take part in the European Student Parliament in
Cambridge in January 2014? In working groups and through
discussion with university researchers and other speakers, you
will discuss current issues on the topic of “The future of the city”
and will prepare and conduct a concluding parliamentary debate.
Five students from the Cambridge European Student Parliament
will additionally have the chance to exchange ideas on a European
scale with 95 students from across Europe in the final European
Student Parliament in Copenhagen in June 2014.
We are offering this event for students in year 12, and we seek
participants with interest in scientific topics and parliamentary
processes.
Preparation and topics
The topics for discussion will come from the following list, and you
will be sent preparation material prior to the event:
 Future mobility – New approaches in the city

 Resources in the city: sky-farming & urban gardening

Student parliament
The European Student Parliament will take place from 3 to 5
January 2014 in Cambridge. In the course of three days, you will
hear from expert speakers and work with facilitators in small
groups, to come up with solution statements for each topic.
Participation is free of charge, and catering and accommodation
will be provided.
Results
Your position papers and results will be summarised and uploaded
to the project website www.student-parliaments.eu after the

European Student Parliaments on Science
Initiated by Wissenschaft im Dialog in Berlin, the project “European
Student Parliaments” (EUSP) aims at strengthening the dialogue
between students aged 16 to 19 and scientific researchers
throughout Europe. Over a period of three days, students will
become acquainted with simulated parliamentary decision-making
processes in the student parliament exercise. Students will work on
different aspects of the topic “The future of the city” and will
prepare the final parliamentary debate in working groups and
expert hearings. Approximately 2000 students from across Europe
will participate in 20 national parliaments. 100 students will have
the opportunity to take part in a final European student parliament,
which will take place during the Euroscience Open Forum
conference 2014 in Copenhagen.
The project is funded by the Robert Bosch Foundation.
