Re: Make Your Mark- the UK’s largest youth consultation Dear Last year over 875,000 pupils took part in a national ballot, Make your Mark. This is the UK Youth Parliament’s annual ballot of 11-18 year olds. This year, the hope is to surpass the 1 million mark. I’m writing to encourage your school/college to register, by 17th July, and take part in the consultation (which runs from 12th August until 9th October 2015). Register online www.ukyouthparliament.org.uk/makeyourmark/ Since 2000, the UK Youth Parliament, has provided a voice for young people to be involved in decision making. Make Your Mark gives young people aged 11-18 the chance to decide what Members of Youth Parliament should debate and vote on during their sitting in the House of Commons this November (subject to a vote by MPs in the new Parliament). To support schools/college’s participation, we have prepared resources and lesson plans (directly linking to the Citizenship and PSHE curricula). We are also offering to send printed ballot papers by mid-September, for use in assemblies, lessons or Tutor groups, and make more accessible ways of voting available too eg. Tally Sheets It is envisaged that the school/college with the highest percentage turnout will win 5 tickets to the viewing gallery of the UKYP House of Commons to see the debate in action. Subsidized travel and a tour of Parliament, will also be offered. This is a great opportunity for School Councils to take part in gathering the views of pupils.
