Harlem Stage Internship Opportunities Spring 2016 Harlem Stage is a valuable resource for New York City, presenting a dynamic variety of programs in music, dance, film, theater, and arts education programs which are rooted in and reflect the rich and diverse traditions of the Harlem community. In 2006, Harlem Stage opened The Gatehouse, a newly restored NYC landmark building, expanding and enhancing its commitment to innovative programming and the Harlem community. ACCOUNTING INTERN Department: Finance Status: Unpaid Internship Reports to: Director of Finance Schedule: 10 hours per week, with preference given to candidates who are able to commit to 6 months Benefits: Course credit, if applicable, in partnership with an educational institution Duties Required: Assist with Journal Entries Assist in the inputting of invoices into computer system with proper coding Assist with bank reconciliations and posting deposits on a monthly basis Keep all filing current and assist in developing new systems for filing Work with excel to create various spreadsheets Requirements of the Position: Energetic and willing to learn Experience with Excel Goal oriented This is an unpaid internship, however interns will be provided with a Metrocard to cover transportation. DEVELOPMENT INTERN The Spring Development Intern will assist in the organization’s efforts to build awareness of Harlem Stage throughout the Harlem community and build capacity for Harlem Stage programming. The position will begin as early as January 18, 2016. Department: Development Status: Unpaid Internship Reports to: Development Manager of Institutional Giving Schedule: 10-12 hours per week, with preference given to candidates who can commit to 6 months Benefits: Course credit, if applicable, in partnership with an educational institution Duties Required: Work closely with development staff to assist with the planning and implementation of department strategies Interface with other departments, including programming and marketing, as needed to facilitate Development initiatives Conduct online research of prospective institutional funders and individual donors, organize and report information Assist with special events, including donor relations, community outreach Compile, organize, and mine donor data to create donor analytics and reports Assist with writing donor communications, including grant proposals and reports Additional duties as requested Some evening and weekend work may be required Requirements of the Position: Strong online / research skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Computer literacy Strong organizational skills Minimum of two days per week This is an unpaid internship, however interns will be provided with a Metrocard to cover transportation. ARTS EDUCATION INTERN The Arts Education Intern will be an organized, reliable, self-starter who is excited and passionate about the arts and interested in pursuing a career in performing arts presenting and management and arts education. The intern will gain an overview of Harlem Stage’s Arts Education Programs which includes the International Series, Harlem Stage in the Schools, the Family Series and Uptown Open. Department: Programming Status: Unpaid Internship Reports to: Interim Director of Programming Schedule: 16-20 hours per week, with preference given to candidates who are able to commit to 6 months Benefits: Course credit, if applicable, in partnership with an educational institution Duties Required: Researching the current arts education landscape and keeping the team abreast of current trends Conducting research on International Series artists for the creation of Education Resource Guides Assisting with the preparation and dissemination of correspondence to schools and artists for the International Series – study guides, marketing materials, invoices etc Assist with on-site support during International Series events – check-in, dissemination of materials to teachers and coordination of groups, when applicable Assist with marketing, documentation and evaluation efforts for the Education Program which includes: o Maintaining a clean list of education contacts o Devising promotional strategies for engaging youth groups for Uptown Open o Assisting with event evaluation and data collection o Create blog entries in conjunction with the Interim Director of Programming and Programming Assistant for publication on the Harlem Stage Blog Requirements of the Position: A passion for the performing arts and work created by artists of color A passion for arts education and working with young people A background/interest in curriculum design Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to prioritize Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Social Media platforms Ability to communicate and work with a diverse group of people Team-player who can learn quickly and also work independently as needed An interest in learning about arts administration and events management An enthusiasm for learning and a willingness to take on a variety of tasks Some evening and weekend work may be required This is an unpaid internship. The intern will gain an overview of Harlem Stage’s Programming which includes WaterWorks, Harlem Stride, Uptown Nights, E-Moves, Dig Deeper, Theater and Film in addition to playing a critical role in the launch of several new humanities and community engagement initiatives.
