Background:
Educational outcome statistics released in June 2011 highlight the continued under
attainment and limited achievement of looked after young people and care leavers in
Scotland. Raising attainment and achievement for these young people is a challenge.
One that the colleges in Scotland can meet through a creative and systematic approach
to planning and delivery of learning programmes, alongside clear support structures and
partnership working.
By the end of this event participants will come together to creat a Community Of Interest
to support next practice with this group of learners.
Aims:
 To provide insights into the challenges colleges face in working with looked after
young people and care leavers
 An introduction to the Buttle UK Quality Mark and the process involved in completing
a submission
 To establish a Community of Interest for practitioners from across the fifteen colleges
currently working towards the Buttle UK Quality Mark
Target Audience:
Key personnel in colleges with responsibility for establishing the Buttle UK Quality Mark
Staff in colleges with responsibility for advice, guidance and support for young learners
