SPRINT cable glands comply with EX standard
Two years in development for international approval
For cable glands that are used in hazardous areas, WISKA has received authorisation in accordance with EN
60079-0:2012 (IEC 60079-0:2011). With this, the industry and shipbuilding supplier fulfils the relevant
requirements not only according to the European Directive ATEX, but also the international (IECEx) and
Brazilian (Inmetro) regulations.
EN 60079-0:2012 is obligatory from April 2015
From April 2015, manufacturers of equipment that is used in hazardous areas, for example in chemical plants,
gas stations or flour mills, are only allowed to use cable glands in accordance with this standard. EN 60079-0:
2012 includes changes in testing requirements that produce an impact on the use of materials and the
construction of cable glands.
In the past two years, the engineers at WISKA have worked intensely on the development of the Ex-proof
cable glands in order to comply with these regulations. They have realized various material tests and made
adjustments to the design. Work has paid off and was rewarded with the successful approval of the
Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt. The Ex cable glands of the WISKA SPRINT-series will be presented
to the audience at the Hannover fair. From 13 to 17 April 2015, WISKA will show its extensive product
portfolio at the leading industry trade fair - Hall 13, Stand C70.
