Ancient Civilization Travel Brochure - Project
Due Date: ___________________________
Choose an Ancient Civilization that we have studied from the opposite side of this sheet. You
will be researching this civilization and creating a travel brochure based upon this information
that would make someone else want to travel or move to this time and place.
Include the following:
Part I: Cover (5 points)
On the cover page of your brochure, include your name, a creative title that includes the
name of your civilization, and an image.
Part II: Map and Images (15 points)
A travel brochure is nothing without a map of the location where people want to travel.
Your map should be detailed and include some sort of extra information or graphics (i.e.
if doing Egypt you might draw the pyramids on the map where they go). You want to
sell this location to travelers, so be sure to include pictures or drawings of the area.
Creativity is a MUST! Be sure to make the advertisement match the time period!
Part III: History of the Civilization (25 points)
If you want people to travel to your civilization you have to excite them and make them
want to see it for themselves. You must provide an overview (summary) of the history of
the civilization from its creation. Include approximate dates for when the civilization
began as well as why and how it was started.
Part IV: Important Development or Advancement (25 points)
All of the early civilizations were important for their own reasons. Choose one important
political, social, economic, or technological development that was created during the time
period of your civilization and explain it in detail with an image.
Part V: Important Leader (15 points)
The early civilizations would be nothing without important leaders. Choose a leader,
(political, religious, or philosophical), provide a brief biography of his or her life and
explain how this leader greatly influenced the development of the civilization.
Part VI: Religious Beliefs (15 points)
All of the early civilizations had some type of spiritual belief. Choose a religion that
goes with your civilization and explain its origins, main beliefs, important religious
figures, and events/holidays. Explain how the people’s religious beliefs were important
to the development of the civilization.
Total: 100 points
While researching and writing your brochure, you are to actually believe that you are living in
that civilization during that time period in history.
1.
Everything is to be written in the PRESENT tense (for that time).
2.
Use your imagination and be creative BUT everything that you write must be based on
historically accurate information.
Topics
Choose ONE of the following civilizations for your brochure. For research purposes, chapters in
the Human Legacy textbook are given below. You may also use other texts in the room as well
as the internet for research, just make sure you are using trustworthy sites.
1. Mesopotamia (Ch. 2)-important!! If you choose Mesopotamia, you must pick ONE (1)
specific group there for research (for example you could do the Hebrews or the Persians).
See Mrs. Martin if this does not make sense
2. Egypt (Ch. 3-sections 1 and 2 only)
3. India (part of Ch. 4, part of Ch. 8)
4. China (part of Ch. 4, part of Ch. 8)
