FACILITIES SERVICES Job Description Building Services Program Coordinator Job Code: 7256 – Contract Classified Program Coordinator Recycling & Solid Waste Department Introduction: Building Services delivers Custodial Services to the UW campus that provides exceptionally clean and sanitary environments for students, faculty, staff, and visitors and manages the comprehensive Recycling & Solid Waste Management program. Job Purpose: Under the direction of the Recycling & Solid Waste Assistant Director, coordinate and perform work using knowledge and experience specific to operations of the Recycling & Solid Waste unit. Serve as one of two primary customer contacts for Recycling & Solid Waste. Duties and Responsibilities: Process calls and emails for an array of recycling and solid waste service requests Dispatch work requests to contracted vendors and internal UW service providers Document all service requests, review invoices, and maintain inventories of equipment and service levels Develop, recommend, and assist in promoting and implementing campus-wide recycling and waste collection programs Resolve inquiries and complaints regarding the recycling and waste collection programs Work with staff regarding implementation of new programs, special collection campaigns, and installation of recycling and waste collection containers Research new techniques for collecting and processing recyclables and diverting waste Publicize, coordinate, and conduct training sessions and outreach activities to promote recycling and waste collection services Advise UW faculty, staff, students, and the general public regarding the policies and procedures for Recycling & Solid Waste programs Prepare committee briefings, newsletter articles, outreach activities, and presentations for meetings Use word processing, graphics, statistical, spreadsheet and database software to prepare Recycling & Solid Waste reports: activity, monthly, client billing, and inventory, recycle percentage, diversion volumes, disposal reports, and other special reports as needed Set up new and maintain existing databases of all service locations, service levels, and materials collected, and revenues collected within Recycling & Solid Waste Create work order requests and complex service and delivery schedules for recycling and waste pickup, cleanout, and special event requests Independently prioritize the needs of clients Act as a liaison with other University departments Resolve problems that arise for clients served Prepare, process, and complete customer invoicing and billing, including departmental recharges, billing activity, and customer reports Monitor and review vendors’ performance Coordinate changes in schedules, routes, container sizes, number of containers, and commodity pickup Perform other duties as assigned Regular and predictable attendance is required Core Competencies: Personal integrity and trustworthiness Manage stressful situations and changing priorities effectively Anticipate, recognize and resolve problems Responsible and accountable Organizational skills and attention to details 07/09/14 Page 1 of 2 Positive, optimistic, success-oriented attitude Professional demeanor which includes being tactful and courteous Professional work ethic Promotes a safe work environment Required Skills, Experience and Knowledge: High school graduation or equivalent AND two years of experience in the program specialty OR equivalent education/experience Excellent oral and written communications skills Excellent customer service skills Experience with word processing, spreadsheets, and databases Desirable Skills, Experience and Knowledge: Experience with multi-line phone systems Experience in recycling or related field (e.g. solid waste management, waste prevention, etc.) Experience working in governmental, higher education, or large corporation recycling programs Experience coordinating special event recycling programs Experience researching special materials reuse and recycling options Conditions of Employment: A satisfactory outcome from a criminal background verification will be required prior to hire 07/09/14 Page 2 of 2
