CALL FOR PAPERS & PARTICIPATION National Seminar (For PG Students and Research Scholars) On Indian Economic Scenario: Problems & Prospects November 05, 2015 By DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICS, BHAGAT PHOOL SINGH MAHILA VISHWAVIDYALAYA, SONEPAT, INDIA (First State Women University in North India) A Seminar “Indian Economic Scenario: Problems and Prospects” is being organized by Department of Economics, Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila Vishwavidyalaya for students. Indian economy started its journey from nowhere in 1950s and now it has become fastest growing and dynamic economy in the world. Indian economy has witnessed unprecedented changes from adoption of Mahalanobis strategy with a socialistic pattern of society (1956) to New Economic policies of liberalization and opening up of the economy (1991) in its journey of last sixty years. The theory of self-reliance and import substitution gradually give way to opening up of the market, disinvestment and foreign investment in almost all sectors. The role of public sectors has been substantially diluted and the private sector has been assigned the key role in development of basic infrastructure, trade and commerce, etc. India’s economy and society are changing at a very fast rate except last two-three years where growth rate remains sluggish due to some policy indecision, delays in projects and corruption. The economy still agrarian in nature, lack of basic infrastructure, support mechanisms and is dependent on fuel import along with its inherited problems of poverty, unemployment, illiteracy, black money etc. The new government certainly encourages the publicprivate partnership which may decide the fate of Indian economy in the coming years. In this backdrop, a seminar is organized for young students to caste light on the various aspects of economy and also to suggest ways for tackling these problems so as to take the country on the path of fast development in 21st century.
