TEACHERS’ NOTES The First World War: Fight and Flight Before your visit o Make sure that adult helpers have a map of the site and the helpers’ notes (below). They must know the time and location of their teaching session. o Have a look at our KS2 or KS3 museum trails for this session. You can print and copy a trail for pupils to use, or just use it as a source of ideas to structure your visit. o Remember to bring payment with you on the day. Your session The First World War: Fight and Flight session lasts for 60 minutes. Coats and bags should be left in the Eating Space – please, no food or drink in the Learning Spaces, for either pupils or adults. Teachers are welcome to take photographs, but not film. Pupils will be asked to put cameras away so that they can concentrate on the session. The session uses the stories of three people from the First World War, a pilot, a soldier and a munitions worker, to explore artefacts in the museum’s collection and answer three enquiry questions. If you are working on particular questions about the First World War at school, please let us know and we can usually adapt the session to fit your needs. INTRODUCTION Location: Learning Space 3 TO THE FIRST Airspace Hangar. Go through the doors and turn right after the WORLD WAR Polaris nuclear missile. Time: Follow the path with the dots, at the end go left. You will see toilets, then the doors to the Eating Space (leave coats and bags there). Keep walking to find the stairs, then go upstairs and turn to your right. A member of museum staff will meet you at the door to Learning Space 3 at your session time.
