Technology Access
Technology is a vital part of
education and the curriculum of
Orangeburg Consolidated School
District Five. In an effort to promote
learning and expand educational
resources for students, the District
has made arrangements to provide
Network access to students and staff.
The District’s goal in providing this
service is to promote educational
excellence by facilitating resource
sharing, communication, and
innovation. Access to the Network,
an “electronic highway” connecting
millions of computer users all over
the world, will allow District students
and staff the opportunity to
communicate with others on a global
level and access educational
materials worldwide.
Access to the Network is a privilege,
not a right.

iLanguage Learning Curriculum
The Concept
iFrench / iSpanish are pilot programs developed by
Mrs. Donna L. Holman, a veteran teacher with more than 25
years of experience facilitating the acquisition of French
and/or Spanish language skills and Francophone and/or
Hispanic cultural knowledge for students from five to twentyfive years of age.
Due to the dynamic nature of the iLanguage Learning
concept, instructional content, materials and requirements may
vary from student to student and may be frequently updated
as the essential focus is on current events, career relevance,
and ever-changing language usage in the many areas of the
French and Spanish-speaking world.
To make the iLanguage Learning program even more
appealing to the 21st Century learner, it is uniquely designed to
incorporate emergent digital technology, especially personal
communication devices, and to promote real-world application
of skills which will allow for individual exploration of specific
career-related terminology and concepts.
The Platform
The iLanguage Learning program is correlated to the
2013 SC Academic Standards for World Language Proficiency
document which is aligned with the new Common Core State
Standards for English Language Arts.
The iLanguage Learning platform offers a multimedia,
informational technology rich environment compatible with
maximum exposure to the French and/or Spanish language and
culture.
In addition, this eclectic approach to learning language
provides a multi-sensory experience not available through
traditional textbook programs and should serve to develop
individuals with 21st Century skills as well as world language
proficiency levels of novice to intermediate.

Timeline and Evidence of Strategies Met
Students will be immersed in the world language from the first day of classes and will be required to use technology as
a means to acquire proficiency not only in the world language, but also in digital technology tools.
The timeline for the implementation of the iLanguage Learning curriculum and the iLanguage Learning Technology Plan
will be from the beginning of classes until the student has reached his/her ultimate or desired proficiency level and as
courses remain available at Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School.
This particular plan may be altered to include emergent technologies and to accommodate the facilitation of the
program at any time during the two year window of August 2013 – June 2015.
Evidence of strategies met will be accomplished in a variety of performance tasks required of the iLanguage Learning
curriculum. Such performance tasks will include, but not be limited to:
*audio and video taped conversations, poems, essays and/or personal life documentaries
*live or video-taped performance of traditional and current songs from the French or Spanish culture
*live or online classroom discussions / blogs where interactions must include concepts learned via technology
*e-mail, text and/or other written digital communication in the world language
*digital multi-media presentations of concepts to entertain, educate or inform others while using the world language
*collaborative multimodal projects to capitalize on the strengths of individual team members on a variety of topics
including real-world issues that concern the United States and its interaction with French-speaking or Spanish-speaking
areas of the world
*periodic sharing of new websites, web 2.0 tools and emergent technologies with language facitator and classmates
*the successful completion of the digital citizenship assessment and technology survey
*the compilation of performance task assignments in a traditional or digital portfolio
“The iLanguage Learning Curriculum is designed to inspire students to
become effective global citizens by integrating technology into today’s
classroom in an effort to provide real-life experiences using the world
language (French or Spanish) and to meet the requirements of 21st
Century Skills acquisition by requiring critical thinking, communication,
collaboration, creativity and innovation via digital devices and Web 2.0
tools.”
