iLanguage Learning Technology Plan Donna L. Holman iFrench / iSpanish Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School 2013-2015 2013-2015 Classroom Overview Orangeburg Wilkinson High School Grades 9-12 French/Spanish Technology Access Technology is a vital part of education and the curriculum of Orangeburg Consolidated School District Five. In an effort to promote learning and expand educational resources for students, the District has made arrangements to provide Network access to students and staff. The District’s goal in providing this service is to promote educational excellence by facilitating resource sharing, communication, and innovation. Access to the Network, an “electronic highway” connecting millions of computer users all over the world, will allow District students and staff the opportunity to communicate with others on a global level and access educational materials worldwide. Access to the Network is a privilege, not a right. Excerpt from OCSD5 Policy/09 iLanguage Learning Curriculum The Concept iFrench / iSpanish are pilot programs developed by Mrs. Donna L. Holman, a veteran teacher with more than 25 years of experience facilitating the acquisition of French and/or Spanish language skills and Francophone and/or Hispanic cultural knowledge for students from five to twentyfive years of age. Due to the dynamic nature of the iLanguage Learning concept, instructional content, materials and requirements may vary from student to student and may be frequently updated as the essential focus is on current events, career relevance, and ever-changing language usage in the many areas of the French and Spanish-speaking world. To make the iLanguage Learning program even more appealing to the 21st Century learner, it is uniquely designed to incorporate emergent digital technology, especially personal communication devices, and to promote real-world application of skills which will allow for individual exploration of specific career-related terminology and concepts. The Platform The iLanguage Learning program is correlated to the 2013 SC Academic Standards for World Language Proficiency document which is aligned with the new Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts. The iLanguage Learning platform offers a multimedia, informational technology rich environment compatible with maximum exposure to the French and/or Spanish language and culture. In addition, this eclectic approach to learning language provides a multi-sensory experience not available through traditional textbook programs and should serve to develop individuals with 21st Century skills as well as world language proficiency levels of novice to intermediate.
