School at St. George Place Arrival and Dismissal Procedures Dear Parents, Welcome to the School at St. George Place. We are so excited and honored you chose our school for your child’s elementary education! To ensure that our drop-off and pick-up procedures are SAFE and efficient, we need your help. Please take the time to look over the following changes so we can all work together to make arrival and dismissal as safe and smooth as possible. Please communicate the following with anyone who may drop off or pick up your child throughout the school year. Please abide by the following procedures: No cell phones o It is against the law to be on the phone while driving in a school zone. (TX Transportation Code § 545.425) Please use crosswalk at all times o Your cooperation in listening to and respecting teachers and staff while crossing maximizes the safety of our entire school community: students, teachers, and parents. Parents should remain in car o Parents should not get out of the car. Teachers stationed along the curb will open the car door for your child. For safety reasons, have your child enter and exit your car closest to the curb so they’re not walking in front of moving vehicles. Pull up to crosswalk o Whether dropping off or picking up your child, please pull your car up to just before the crosswalk along the curb. If you’re coming into the building, please be mindful of obstructing the entrances. Arrival Parking o Parking is available for parents and visitors in the designated parking spaces in the front and back parking lots. Drop-off o Please have your student(s) ready with their belongings as they exit the car to make the arrival process as efficient as possible. Official Start Time o All parents and visitors must leave the building no later than 7:45 a.m. Teachers are only able to meet with parents during the teacher’s planning time, not when students are being dropped off or picked up. School at St. George Place Arrival and Dismissal Procedures o If you have a scheduled appointment or are volunteering, please sign in at the front office and wear a visitor’s tag. o ALL students that arrive from 7:20-7:35 will report to the cafeteria. o Students are only allowed to start walking to class when the bell rings at 7:35. Dismissal 30 minutes before dismissal o We will be unable to accommodate requests for early pick-up after 2:45 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, or Fridays. You will be asked to wait until regular dismissal if you arrive after this time. Likewise, we will be unable to accommodate requests for early pick-up after 12:15 p.m. on Wednesdays. Communication with teacher o You must notify the homeroom teacher in writing if there are changes to your child’s pick-up status for the day. For example, if your child typically rides the bus but will be a walker, his/her teacher needs to know ahead of time. Walkers o At approximately 3:25 p.m., walkers will be released to their parents, who are waiting outside of the front entrance. This allows walkers to cross the circle drive and get home more safely, as there is less carpool traffic. Walkers are students who walk from school to their homes. Walkers are not students who walk from the school to their parked car. Where to pick up o If your child is in Pre-K, Kinder, 1st, or 5th grade, you will pick up your child in the back carpool lane. o If your child is in 2nd, 3rd, or 4th grade, you will pick them up in the front carpool lane on Hidalgo Street. o Siblings If the oldest child is in 2nd-4th grade, pick up will be in the front. Otherwise, your children will be picked up in the back. If the oldest child is in 5th grade, pick up will be in the back. Carpool Tags o Please have your carpool tag hanging from the rear-view mirror while picking up your child. Please be patient in the first two weeks with the arrival/dismissal process. As we all become more familiar with these procedures, the amount of time will be vastly reduced. Thank you in advance for your cooperation. The teachers and staff here at the School at St. George Place appreciate your support as we provide your children with a rigorous education in a safe and nurturing environment.
