B”H FLORIDA’S AMAZING MENORAH CONTEST RULES 1. Eligibility: Florida’s Amazing Menorah Contest is open to every family, school, Hebrew school and Jewish group in Florida. The “Menorah” is the traditional “Chanukiyah” used by Jews for the Festival of Chanukah. 2. Host: The contest is hosted by Hebrew Academy Community School, located at 1500 N. State Rd 7, Margate. 3. Agreement to Official Rules: Participation in the contest constitutes entrants’ full and unconditional agreement to and acceptance of these Official Rules and the decision of the judges which are final and binding. 4. Contest Period: The contest November 30, 2015. All entries can be submitted (physically or by photograph) to Hebrew Academy by that date (f.kaufman@hebrewacademy.org) 5. Material Regulations: Menorahs cannot be built out of edible or flammable materials as they will have to be kindled. Dimensions should not exceed 2 feet wide, 2 feet high, and 2 feet in length. Menorahs will be in accordance with Jewish tradition and law, comprising 8 Chanukah candles that are on one level and a “Shamash” helper candle. 6. Entries Through Schools or Groups: Groups & Schools: Participating groups or schools will conduct their own internal contest and will send photos of their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners to Hebrew Academy to represent their organization. Final winning Menorahs must be brought to the Hebrew Academy by Dec. 2, 2015. 7. Family Entries: Families are invited to create their menorahs together. However, should a family be declared the contest winner, only one child will represent the family for the trip to Tallahassee. 8. Announcement of Winning Entry: All entries will be displayed (physically and by photo array) and judged at the Hebrew Academy Community School by a panel of objective judges. Criteria will include creativity, originality and beauty. 9. The Winner: The winning Menorah will be presented to the public at various community events (TBA.) The Governor’s Mansion The winning menorah will also be presented by the winner to Florida’s Governor Rick Scott at a Chanukah ceremony (date and time TBA). The winner will be flown to Tallahassee, all-expenses paid, escorted by Rabbi Yossie Denburg, President/ Dean of Hebrew Academy. Other members of the winner’s family, school, or group who wish to accompany the child to any or all of these events will cover those expenses themselves.
