In 2005 the Council moved from a 55ltr box for mixed dry recyclables to a 240ltr green wheeled bin for households on a fortnightly collection. A small number of terraced properties remain on black bag collections and have clear sacks for recycling. Also in 2005 a paid for brown bin garden waste service was introduced 1 January 2013 commencement of change of landfill bins to all residential properties from 140L to 240L in preparation to change of contract as of 1 April 2013 1 April 2013 commencement of new contract with Kier Environmental Services 1 April 2013 commencement of an alternate weekly collection of residual waste and recycling both in 240ltr bins for the majority of properties. In addition, all households were issued with a 23ltr food waste bin for weekly collection and a 7ltr kitchen caddy.
