Random Sampling (without replacement) with PHStat2
To generate a random sample of size n from a population of size N:
1. Click on the Add-Ins tab in the Excel Toolbar.*
2. Click on PHStat2 in the Add-Ins ribbon.
3. Click on Sampling and then on Random Sample Generation.
*This assumes the PHStat2 Add-In program has already been installed on your computer. If it has not been installed,
installation instructions are available in the readme files on the PHStat2 Version 2.7.0 CD-ROM.
The Random Sample Generation dialog box should now be visible on your screen.
1. Enter the Sample Size n.
2. The Generate list of random numbers bullet should already be selected. Enter the Population Size N.
In the screenshot below, the student was asked to generate a random sample of size 20 from a population of size 500.
You can label your sample data here (Sample 1) or do it after the sample has been generated.
3. Click the OK button.
Here is the output for the entered data. The sample is generated in a new tab and the label (if provided) should appear
in the first cell of the table.
