Third International Symposium On Environmental and Water ResourcesEngineering 2-3 June 2015, Tehran, Iran A comparative study of liquid-liquid extraction of phosphoric acid against distillation process Sina Shekarsaraee Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, University of Guilan, P.O. Box: 41335-19141, Rasht, Iran Abstract Liquid-liquid extraction (LLE) is one of the most important industrial process that consumes lower energy than distillation process. It decreases loss of fossil fuels and greenhouse gases production. In the present work, LLE of phosphoric acid (PA) from its aqueous solution was studied using a safe organic solvent. n-Octyl acetate was the organic extractor. the solvent has low vapor pressure and density besides high boiling point that makes it a proper solvent to extract PA from its solution. The results of LLE experiments was finally compared with those witch obtained from distillation process. Distillation process was designed and simulated by Aspen Plus 11.1. Use of this powerful software causes frugality in time and money and provides the possibility of investigation of different conditions and estimation of costs. The results show that LLE process could have important role in reduction of costs and global warming and protection of natural resourses. Key words: LLE, Phosphoric Acid, Distillation, Aspen. *Assictant Professor of physical Chemistry
