Sarah Smith PTA Committee Volunteer Form The PTA supports the quality of life at Sarah Smith thanks to the many parents who volunteer. Please review the following opportunities to find a role that fits your availability and skills. Classroom Volunteer needs are listed on the PTA Classroom Contact & Volunteer Form. You will be invited to sign up for dates and frequency that fit with your schedule. Media Center (PC) ~ Book your 1 ½ hour shift to help out the PC Media Center Specialist. Jobs may include reading to students, re-shelving books, or managing check out. Dates and frequency are flexible. School Store (PC & IC) ~ No sales experience necessary! Both campuses have a school store that carries basic school supplies. The PC store is open from 7:30-7:55 on Wednesdays and Fridays. The IC store is open from 7:30-7:55 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Dates and frequency are flexible. Welcome Desk (PC) ~ Seeking smiling faces to assist our school secretaries! Answer phone calls, greet visitors, and make deliveries to classrooms during 2 hour shifts: 7:55-10:00, 10:00-12:15, and 12:15-2:15. Volunteers are asked to consider at least 2 shifts/month. The following committees need volunteers at various times during the year based on their programming. Chairs will contact members when their help is needed. ESOL Support ~ Periodically, the PTA ESOL Liaisons will need assistance with translating communications and answering questions. This is on an as-needed basis. Go Green ~ Sarah Smith is doing its part to save the planet! This committee works with teachers, recycling partners and the custodial team at both campuses to address environmental issues at school on an as-needed basis. Multicultural Affairs ~ The Sarah Smith student body represents many countries and cultures. We seek to celebrate them through a variety of events, activities, and initiatives that are designed to support our IB curriculum. Committee members will help plan, promote, and implement these programs. SSEF Annual Fund Campaign ~ Thanks to the Sarah Smith Education Foundation Annual Fund, over $200,000/year is raised to make sure the quality of curriculum at Sarah Smith is second to none. Volunteers work with the Annual Fund Chairs to encourage participation in this important fundraising effort. Service in Action ~ Civic engagement is a big part of the IB curriculum. Grade-level service projects give students the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others. Projects and dates vary by grade. Please note which grade you want to assist. Wellness ~ Healthy students are better students! This committee works on initiatives that promote health and wellness, including Health & Wellness Week, March 24-28. The following opportunities are related to specific events. Needs are not restricted to the day(s) of the event. Volunteers may be needed to help with pre-planning as well. Fall Book Fair: 9/23 - 10/4 ~ Love books? Help out with the Fall Scholastic Book Fair. Volunteers will be needed for set-up, sales, floaters, and takedown. Fall Walk to School Day: Wednesday, October 2nd ~ Pull on your walking shoes and help plan International Walk to School Day. Volunteers promote the event, encourage participation, schedule day-of volunteers, and help along the route the day of the event. Grandparents Day: Friday, October 25th ~ We are welcoming grandparents and special friends to Sarah Smith and we need your help to put our best foot forward! The committee develops and coordinates the agenda, designs activities, and coordinates the invitation process. Grandparents and Special Friends Day will be held at both campuses this year. Fall Festival: Saturday, October 26th ~ It’s not officially fall until this fun for the entire family event happens at Sarah Smith. We need volunteers to help with all aspects of this annual Festival, which offers food, fun, & games for everyone. The committee is responsible for planning the food, activities, volunteers, promotion, set-up and takedown. Bingo Night: Date TBD ~ Be a winner by helping plan this annual family fun event. The committee handles publicity, prize solicitation, concessions, RSVPs, volunteers, set-up, and takedown. Spring Walk to School Day: Wednesday, March 5 ~ Pull on your walking shoes take two. Help plan and execute Georgia Walk to School Day. Volunteers promote the event, encourage participation, secure and schedule day-of volunteers, and help along the route the morning of the event. Spring Book Fair: Dates ~ Love Books Take 2! Help out with the Spring Scholastic Book Fair. Volunteers will be needed for set-up, sales, floaters, and takedown. Kindergarten Round Up: April 25, 2014 ~ Yee Haw! We’ve got a herd of incoming kindergarteners and their parents visiting for a tour and information session and we need to show them how great Sarah Smith is! Volunteers help plan and execute this event, including set-up, tour guides, information tables, and takedown. International Travelers: May 5-9 ~ It will take an army of volunteers to transform Sarah Smith into Brazil, where our students will travel during IT Week 2014. This program is unique to Sarah Smith and compliments our IB curriculum. Volunteers are needed to plan activities, art projects, decorations, programs, food, and the annual Peace Pole dedication. Staff Appreciation Week: May 12-16 ~ Help show our teachers how much they mean to us. Committee members coordinate special treats for faculty and staff during Appreciation Week.
