Sarah Smith Classroom Contact List & Volunteer Form
Sarah Smith parents are invited to volunteer in their child’s classroom. Please review the opportunities to find
a role that fits your availability and skills. Every parent is asked to volunteer. If more than one person signs up,
volunteers will be selected by lottery.
PLEASE RETURN THIS FORM TO YOUR TEACHER BY MONDAY, AUGUST 25th. THE CONTACT INFORMATION
WILL BE USED TO CREATE A CLASS CONTACT LIST SO WE NEED TO HEAR FROM EVERYONE.

The following opportunities are related to major PTA initiatives and last for several weeks. There may be preplanning associated with these roles as well.
○
Reflections ~ Sarah Smith students are one creative bunch! One volunteer is needed to present details of
this annual art competition, provide the forms, communicate about work days and deadlines, and collect
submissions on the due date. No artistic talent necessary! Classroom representatives will need to attend a
meeting on September 4th. Reflections Due Date, October 16th
○
Read-a-Thon: January 22nd- -February 5th ~ Sarah Smith superstar readers turn pages read into dollars
through this major PTA fundraiser. The classroom volunteer coordinates with the teacher to promote this
two-week event. You pass out information, explain the need for sponsors, tally points, award incentives, and
encourage the students to have fun! Volunteers need to be in the classroom at least four times over the
two-week period.

International Travelers: May11-15 ~ We are headed to South Africa for IT Week 2015! Two classroom
volunteers are needed. They are responsible for recruiting parent volunteers to help with classroom
activities, including the daily art projects. An art coordinator will facilitate the projects as well.
○
Staff Appreciation Week: February 9-12 ~ Show your teachers how important they are. The classroom
volunteer is responsible for several activities during Staff Appreciation Week, including collecting cards and
flowers for your teacher and assigned specialist and providing lunch one day. The Staff Appreciation
committee will provide additional information/direction in February.
The following opportunities are one-time volunteer roles. Communication prior to the event should be expected.

Sarah Smith Work Day: Sunday, October 5th ~ Making Sarah Smith beautiful takes work! We need at least
one parent from each class to grab a hammer or gardening gloves and help spruce up our facilities and
grounds. Students welcome.
○
Grandparents Day: Friday, October 24th ~ Help us put our best foot forward when we welcome our special
guests to Sarah Smith. The volunteer will help disseminate information and be the point person for classroom
guests at this special event. Grandparents and Special Friends Day will be held at both campuses this year.
○
Fall Festival: Saturday, October 25th ~ It’s not officially fall until this fun for the entire family event happens
at Sarah Smith. We need at least one volunteer from each classroom to volunteer at the Festival.
Responsibilities include set-up, staffing activities, & cleanup.
○
Grade Level Social Event ~ It’s all fun & games when students in every grade gather for a night of fun,
whether they are watching movies, playing in the gym, or skating around Peachtree Presbyterian.
One classroom volunteer is needed to help staff the event to assist with set-up, sign in, and pick up. Dates
and activities to be announced in the fall.
Holiday Party: Friday, December 19th ~ Send our students off on their holiday break in style with an end-of-semester
party. Three volunteers will work together to provide food & fun!

Activity ~ Nothing fancy, but something special!
Mardi Gras: Tuesday, February 24th ~ Laissez le bon temps rouler! Our incredible French teachers bring
Mardi Gras to Sarah Smith! Two volunteers per class are needed for a ½ hour shift to help with activities in
the gym. Class schedules are announced closer to the event.
End of Year Party: Friday, May 22nd ~ Celebrate the end of school by helping plan an end-of-year party. Three
volunteers will work together to provide food & fun! (5th Grade does not have EOY parties in the classrooms).

The following opportunities occur throughout the year and on an as-needed basis.

Multicultural Affairs ~ The Sarah Smith student body represents many countries and cultures and the
Multicultural Affairs Committee plans activities to highlight these different heritages. Classroom volunteers
will help distribute information about events as well as coordinate classroom activities designed to support
our IB curriculum.
Yearbook Photographer ~ A picture is worth a thousand words and the Yearbook staff wants thousands of
them! This volunteer will be responsible for taking pictures (using a non-cell phone camera) of the class
throughout the year and creating their class page for the yearbook.
Teacher Helpers ~ Our teachers are as close to Super Heroes as it comes, but even they need help! Whether
it’s stuffing homework folders, updating bulletin boards, or making copies, these volunteers will make
themselves available as needed to help make your teacher’s life just a little bit easier!
