Motion brought by Groves asked to start 1st year experience; combine PSYC 1001 and HPSM 2003 to have one course that covers all. DISCUSSION OUTCOME/ACTION Amendments: Owens-Delong was present. Item #6: 2nd, Carried unanimously Student appeals were directed to the wrong committee; therefore decisions on student appeals (items 8-12) are null and void. Industry standard. Frees up classroom space and better utilizes faculty resources. 2nd. Carried Unanimously. Rationale: Not enough time to cover course objectives with a 1 hour course. Implementation of Strengths assessment is being added to course objectives, and exploration of this material will take more time than a 1 hour course allows. More emphasis on setting tone for academic/spiritual development aspects at SCU. 2nd. Carried unanimously with added clarification. New prefix needs to be assigned. Would fall under director of General Education. (Recommend: UNIV 1XX3) First-year coordinator will oversee this. Title: Strategies for Student Success. Affects on academic programs: Would reduce number of open electives in programs. Would mostly affect music students and religion BA students who already have few open electives. Clarify in the course description that this course is for all traditional students. Learning outcomes need to be more measurable, but these do not go in the catalog. Motion by OwensDelong to add EDUC 4812 Classroom Strategies and EDUC 4815 and 4825 Internships Needed for teacher education track in History. (Number 4813 assigned by registrar after the meeting.) 2 . Carried unanimously. 8. Motion brought by Owens-Delong to add a new course for PE majors HPSM 4813. Distinctive capstone for PE and Health Teacher Ed major; not meant for Sport Management or Kinesiology although they can take it as a substitution for their capstone course. Motion brought by Owens-Delong to add HIST 4000 Applied Human Anatomy and Physiology is distinctive from the two courses required for Kinesiology track. Add to submitted description Prerequisite: Teacher Ed. acceptance. Figure out a process for identifying teacher ed approved students Clinical practice for HPSM 4433 Meth in El PE course 2nd. Three courses in 2nd. Carried Motor Skills makes sure there's balanced instruction for all three. The Fitness unanimously. Assessment courses evaluate the health of potential PE teachers. HPSM 3811, 3821, 3831, 3841, 3851 respectively These three courses together meets the student teaching requirements of NCATE. Industry standard for teacher ed programs. 2nd. Carried unanimously. Motion brought by Owens-Delong to add ENGL 4000 Clinical practice for ENGL 4813 Methods of Teaching English course. Already approved course. Registrar will ensure correct # for Methods course. 2 . Carried unanimously 14. Motion brought by Owens-Delong to remove 4 courses from catalog. EDUC 4114 Student Teaching Seminar EDUC 4128 Student Teaching in Pre K-12 EDUC 4138 Student Teaching Secondary HPSM 3413 Observation Practicum- Elementary and Secondary PE 2nd. Carried unanimously 15. Motions brought by Owens-Delong to add corequisites and prerequisites for Ed courses. 16. Motion brought by Hendrix to establish polices for making curriculum and policy changes in catalog. No changes can be made to programs once the catalog is published. 17. Motion brought by Hinkle to remove multidisc language from catalog in light of new double major. These courses are unnecessary based on the new curriculum, and removing them will remove confusion related to courses for the program. Prereqs Comp II in EDUC 2113 Foundations in Ed Prereqs of Comp II and Clinical Practice Coreq to EDUC 3202 Ed Tech. Prereqs Comp II and admission to Teacher Ed program and clinical practice coreqs for EDUC 4232/4000, ENGL 4813/4000, HIST 4813/4000, HPSM 4433/4000, EDUC 4812/4825/4815 In general, establishes deadlines for catalog updates. AC recommends that Adrian and deans incorporate this AC policy into policies and procedures as it aligns with other policies and procedures. 2nd. Carried unanimously. No vote necessary.
