MEDIA RELEASE Contact: Brad Rugg, Superintendent, 612-624-8443 2015 MINNESOTA 4-H BEEF CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW St. Paul, MN (8/28/15) - There was a total of 614 beef cattle shown at the 2015 Minnesota 4-H Beef Show. The 4-H Beef show was held on the first and second day of the Minnesota State Fair, Aug. 27-28. The beef show judge was Dr. Jason Rowntree from East Lansing, Michigan. The dairy steer judge was Brian Schermerhorn from New York Mills, Minnesota. The Supreme Champion Market Beef was shown by Jed Knutson of Freeborn County and was the Champion Charolais Steer. Elizabeth Wasmoen of Freeborn County took overall Reserve Champion with her Division II Crossbred Steer. Gavin Mulder of Jackson County took third overall market beef with his Division II Crossbred Steer. Fourth overall market beef was shown by Marin Eeg of Roseau County with her Maine Anjou Steer. The fifth overall market beef was shown by Katelyn Hartwig of Stearns County with her Division III Crossbred Steer. The Grand Champion Dairy Steer was shown by Malory Mattson of Freeborn County, the steer was the 1305 pound champion from Division I. The Reserve Champion was a 1440 pound steer from Division II and was shown by Zachery Mattson of Pope County. The Supreme Champion Breeding Heifer was shown by Jadelyn Williamson of Freeborn County and was a Maine Anjou Heifer. Dylan Miner of Dodge County took overall Reserve Champion with his Angus Heifer. The third overall breeding heifer was shown by Callie Ramer of Benton County with her Simmental Heifer. Riley Johnson of Jackson County took fourth overall with his Commercial Heifer. The fifth overall breeding heifer was shown by Whitney Olson of Douglas County with her Foundation Simmental Heifer. The Supreme Champion Cow/Calf was shown by Emily Altenburg of Sibley County and with an Angus Cow/Calf Pair. Hunter Aggen of Fillmore County took overall Reserve Champion with his Simmental Cow/Calf Pair. Third Overall was shown by Alayna Schuler from Chippewa County who showed a Red Angus Cow/Calf pair. The Grand Champion Prospect Calf was shown by Cole Weidert of Nobles County and with a Prospect Steer Calf. Sawyer Otto of Redwood County took overall Reserve Champion with Prospect Heifer Calf. In addition to a quality animal, 4-H youth must demonstrate their knowledge about the beef industry. 4H’ers learn important development and leadership skills throughout their involvement with their projects and communities.
