Ancient Greek Mythology Research Project
*In class we have been learning about Ancient Greek Mythology. This was an important part of
the culture of Ancient Greece. This project will allow students to explore/research the various
characteristics of this ancient civilization, so that students might better understand who these
people were. DUE DATE: NOVEMBER 11
The five characteristics of a civilization are:
1. Stable food supply
What types of food did they eat? How did they produce it?
2. System of government
How were the people organized? What laws did they have? How were they ruled?
3. Social Levels
What were the different classes of people? Who was in each class?
4. Labor
What were the different types of jobs in this civilization? Who did each job?
5. Highly developed Culture
Art, music, religion, architecture, games, etc.
*You will be responsible for a completing a research project on Ancient Greece/Greek Mythology.
You will choose ONE of the characteristics above to research. This research project can be completed
in different ways; including a written report, a power point presentation, a diorama, create a museum
artifact from the culture, or even a recipe.
SOURCES OF INOFRMATION:



You are required to use at least three sources of information, including:
One book, magazine, or newspaper article
Two digital sources (websites, online articles, e-books, etc.)
*Each source of information you use should be cited and included with your project upon turning
it in. This should be typed on a separate piece of paper.
*This project will be scored with a rubric.
Ideas for Projects:
Written Report:
The report should be at least 1.5 pages long; typed, using a size 12 font and double-spaced. The report
should include an introduction, main body, a conclusion, and be at least 5 paragraphs. The report
should include clear, detailed information on the subject you chose about Ancient Greece or Greek
Mythology.
Power Point:
A Power point presentation should be at least 10 slides long and use written information as well as
pictures and/or diagrams. It should organized with a title slide, introduction, a body of information, and
a conclusion.
Museum Artifact:
A museum artifact should be a model of some part of a civilization’s culture using materials you have at
home or you choose to buy. Ideas for a museums artifact could be a piece of jewelry, a sculpture, a
mask, a miniature version of a building or a model of a type of transportation that the culture used. It
can be anything that represents a part of the culture of Ancient Greece. A museum artifact should
include a typed written piece explaining what the artifact is, which of the 5 characteristics it represents
and any other information that helps explain what the artifact was used for.
Diorama:
A diorama should display a scene that represents some part of the culture of Ancient Greece. This can
be done in many different ways using many different types of materials. It’s a GREAT way to be
CREATIVE. Your diorama should include a typed written piece explain what the scene is, which of the 5
characteristics it represents, and any other information that helps explain what the diorama is depicting.
Recipe:
If you choose “stable food supply” as the characteristic you are researching, a great way to represent
the food they ate is by creating it yourself! Many recipes can be found online. If you choose to do this,
make sure you have adult supervision when preparing the recipe. You will need to bring your prepared
food item to class and present it to the class. You are NOT required to make enough for everyone in
class to sample, but you are welcome to do so if you choose. If you choose to make a food item, you will
need to include a typed written piece to explain what the recipe is, how it was made, and how/why it
was important to the Ancient Greek culture.
**NOTE- These are just some ideas for the different types of projects you can complete. If you have
your own idea for a research project, I’d love to hear it…BUT please, check with me before starting on it.
**Parents and Guardians:
I encourage you to help your children when needed during projects but, please, let the student’s do the
majority of the work.
