Update on Summer Activities

1.

Joseph Hall –The offices for Montessori were moved from the third floor to the second floor and the offices for Sports Studies were relocated from Schmidt

Fieldhouse to the third floor. New carpet was installed in the hallway at the entrance to Sports Studies.

The vinyl asbestos floor tile was removed from the first floor where the

Montessori Lab is located and new vinyl composition tile and carpet was installed in its place.

Project is complete.

2.

Sycamore House – Original roof was removed down to the sheathing and a new roof and gutters have been installed. Repairs to the stucco are in process and the exterior is being scrapped and prime painted. The wood soffits will be repaired and the entire exterior painted. All exterior repairs will be complete by the fall.

Conversations with the users are ongoing to determine the best time to begin painting and carpeting work on the interior. Preliminary thoughts are that it may be best to complete the interior work during the break at Christmas.

3.

1425 Dana – Repairs to the roof are complete. Project is complete.

4.

1457 Dana – Salvage operations were completed. House has been demolished.

Site has been graded and seeded. Project is complete.

5.

Dana Ave. – After several delays, progress has resumed on the widening of Dana

Ave. A major tie in for the water lines will be done at Ledgewood and Dana in late August. This will complete the majority of the underground utility work.

Installation of concrete curbs and walks will continue the next couple of months on the south side of Dana while on the north side of Dana crews will begin installation of the asphalt paving base course for the brick paver sidewalk.

Given the delays encountered thus far and the requirement in the project specifications from the City of Cincinnati that prohibit installation of asphalt paving after November 1, the project cannot be completed this construction season. Anew completion date of June 1, 2012 has been established by the City.

6.

Academic Mall –Installation of the hot and chilled water lines on the mall are complete and the site has been restored.

Demolition of the cooling tower building on the Victory Parkway side of Lindner is complete and restoration of that area is underway and is scheduled to be complete by mid-August. The work that was scheduled for the summer is complete.

The new hot and chilled water lines that feed Gallagher run through University

Drive and will be replaced during the Christmas break completing the project in its entirety.

7.

McDonald Library – Interior renovations on all four floors are complete and all

232,936 volumes of books have been returned to campus and re-shelved. The majority of the new furniture is in place with a few remaining pieces due in later this month. The library opened to the public this week. Project is complete.

8.

Albers and Logan Science Labs - Work is complete and a temporary certificate of occupancy has been issued. The glass sash on the fume hood for the chemistry lab was damaged during shipping and consequently the final air balancing could not be completed. A replacement sash is on order and will ship next week. Installation will occur shortly thereafter and the project will be complete at that time. The two biology labs are complete. Project is complete with the exception of the glass sash on the one fume hood.

9.

Hailstones – Cracks in the foundations have been located and sealed. Interior finishes have been repaired and the site where excavation occurred has been restored. Project is complete.

10.

Gallagher Student Center - Interior upgrades, wall covering and flooring, to the atrium are complete. Shipment of the wall covering for the clock tower lounge has been delayed and is expected later this month. Project complete with the exception of the wall covering in the clock tower lounge.

11.

University Apartments – Windows have been removed and replaced. Masonry repairs to the front entrance are complete. New air conditioners have been installed. The interiors have been completely repainted and new window blinds have been installed throughout. New furniture for the bed rooms has been installed. Project is complete.

12.

Buenger Residence Hall – Flooring has been replaced. Project is complete.

13.

Honors Villa – Salvage operations were completed. House has been demolished. Site has been graded and seeded. Project is complete.

14.

Cintas Center – a.

New portable floor for arena has been installed. First volleyball game has already been played on the new surface. Project is complete. b.

Caulking, cleaning, and sealing the exterior precast on the north elevation is complete. Project is complete. c.

Design on the upgrades to the Athletic offices will begin in September and the work is now targeted to begin in April, 2012.

15.

Campus Services Building – Building was excavated down to the footing on two sides, footing drain installed, foundation walls were waterproofed and site restored. Minor interior finishes have been restored. Project is complete.

16.

Herald / Cleneay Ave Sewer Replacement - Reconstruction of the manhole in front of the Commons and replacement of the sewer in the street is complete.

Paving has been restored. Final traffic markings are left to be done but project is essentially complete.

17.

New Residence and Dining Hall – Construction work has been complete and all furniture has been delivered and installed. Punch lists have been prepared for all aspects of the work and corrective work is underway and nearly complete.

Owner’s training has occurred and approximately 90 people have moved in to the building last weekend and early this week. The complex is ready for move-in which will occur on Sunday, August 21 st .

A soft opening for the dining hall is underway and Chartwells began serving meals last week. Currito Burrito is progressing according to schedule and will be open for the Manressa weekend.

Design is complete on the shell spaces for Residence Life, Bursar, Registrar,

Auxiliary Services and Mission and Identify. The plans have been submitted to the City for permitting and the project is out to bid. Construction on the space will begin shortly with completion and move-in slated for early December.

18.

Rotary – Granite pedestal for the statue of St. Francis Xavier and the surrounding landscape and paved areas are now complete. A ring of flowers wil be installed on Friday completing the construction work. The statue is scheduled for delivery in late November with the unveiling and dedication set for the feast day of St. Francis Xavier, December 3 rd .
