Project: Globally Threatened Waterbird Conservation in the Coastal Areas of Banladesh

Globally Threatened Water birds Conservation in the Coastal Areas of Bangladesh Project is a sub
project of SRCWP /WB/FD, a World Bank funded project in Bangladesh. This project aims to
contribute to the al efforts for the conservation of threatened water birds through developing
knowledgebase, undertaking conservation activities and engaging local youths and young
researchers in the conservation process.
Result 1: Information on present status, distribution of water birds, threats identified and
database developed for supporting conservation planning
Result 2: ringing and color banding will identify migratory pathways and core breeding areas of
Indian Skimmer by satellite tagging and other waterbirds
Result 3. Local community people, youths and school students will be motivated to conserve and
monitor threatened water birds
Result 4: Potential hotspot areas of water birds within the study areas identified and
recommended for its declaration as new Ramsar sites in Bangladesh.
NACOM is a implementation partner of Forest Department for ‘Globally Threatened Waterbird
Conservation in the Coastal Areas of Banladesh in Noakhali and Bhola District Coastal Areas and
Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf Peninsula ECA project and responsible for implementation of activities in
Noakhali and Bhola District Coastal Areas and Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf Peninsula ECA ECA. NACOM is
a national level non-government pioneer pro-environment organization in Bangladesh and works
exclusively in the areas of biodiversity conservation, climate change adaptation, resource comanagement, etc. NACOM has strong presence in the southeast parts of Bangladesh.
NACOM invites application from Bangladeshi individuals for immediate appointment in the
following positions to work for the Globally Threatened Waterbird Conservation in the Coastal
Areas of Bangladesh Project.
Position: Monitoring Officer
No. of vacancies: 01
Major responsibilities:
• Lead site level appraisal and baseline information collection
• Identify threats to waterbirds, biodiversity and identify conservation needs for different sites
• Identify and plan conservation intervention for critical species and ecosystem involving
stakeholders
• Assist in conducting training programs
• Contribute to preparing different technical documents on best practices and experiences in
waterbirds conservation and management.
• Perform any other project related tasks assigned by PI/Higher authority
• Identify and propose waterbirds monitoring indicators, contribute to monitoring methodology
development, collect monitoring data on a regular basis and oversee data entry and field level
data management and reporting.

Organize awareness programs
Hold dialogue with local stakeholders.
Facilitate participatory monitoring.
Prepare quarterly work plan
Prepare monthly, quarterly, annual and activities reports for the donors
Maintain cooperation with BFD
Any other activities as assigned
Employment nature: Full-time basis.
Academic qualifications: Masters in Zoology (Wildlife Biology)
Experience Requirements: Minimum 3-5 years of working experience.
The applicants should have experience in the areas of waterbird identification and monitoring
and climate change.
Additional Job Requirements
Should have experience on MS-Office, English and Bangla report writing, updated knowledge on
biodiversity conservation and Climate Change.
Salary Range: TK. 30,000 (Thirty Thousand-consolidated)
Job Location: Dhaka Head Office and frequently field travel at Coastal Areas of Bhola district,
Noakhali district and Cox’s Bazar ECA.
