The purpose of the System is to promote cooperation and coordination of library collections and services so as to meet the informational, educational, cultural and recreational needs of all residents of the Orange County area. December 29th, 1989 Santiago Library System (formerly OCCCLS) is established as a CLSA agency. July 1st, 2009 The Southern California Library Cooperative is organized, incorporating both SLS and the Metropolitan Cooperative Library System of Los Angeles County. June 30th, 2013 Nine Orange County libraries withdraw from SCLC and reestablish SLS (during this process, the temporary working name of Cooperative Libraries of Orange County – CLOC – is used). Two associate members join SLS: Huntington Beach Public Library and the OC Public Law Library. In the past with SCLC we always looked forward to the inspiring Workshops whether it is a round table with local authors, or having a share fair (events/programs). We have talked at length about the change toward STEM and Makerspaces so a workshop on either of these two topics would be of interest to all of us. 4. Create a program in a box which could be shared with other libraries, ie. A Makerspace box containing the basic instructions and key elements one might need to successfully create a program for their library which could be checked out by our SLS libraries 5.
