BUSHFIRE RESPONSE PLAN – BUS FLEET This plan is specific to sites where buses (both DECD and site owned) are stationed during the day and can assist in the event of site evacuation. On rare occasions schools may receive notification or direction from SAPOL, CFS or the DECD Bushfire and Emergency Management team to the presence of imminent threat and the resulting need for an off-site evacuation. As such notifications are not habitually provided, the site Emergency Response Team (ERT) must determine suitable trigger points and act upon them independently. Examples of a site’s Trigger Point may include: A CFS Watch and Act message advising of a fire within a 20km radius of the township Receipt of a SAFECOM SMS/phone call emergency alert advising of an imminent bushfire threat School Details Site Leader On Site - Bus Asset Availability Number of buses available on site Number of buses available on site with disability access Are the drivers available during the day to drive the bus in the event of an evacuation Number of staff who hold an applicable bus license (LR or HR ) to drive a bus in the event of an evacuation What is the trigger for driver to return to site in preparation of an evacuation Off Site - Bus Asset Availability Buses available Buses with disability access Location of buses (full street address) Distance of location from the school (km) Are the drivers available during the day to drive the bus in the event of an evacuation Trigger for driver to return to site in preparation of an evacuation The following considerations should be made in preparation for the fire danger season; Meet with bus drivers to ensure bushfire procedures are understood Discuss with drivers their volunteer responsibilities (e.g. CFS) or any other obligations which may impact their ability to undertake assigned duties during a bushfire 1 | Bushfire Response Plan – Bus Fleet | 2014/15
