This policy covers general plant tours, which are offered to the public and internal and external stakeholders
Continental - Sumter.
Tours will be suspended when commercial confidentiality is required or as determined by the needs of the business.
Plant Tours are led by a Continental tour guide who has read and accepted this Policy.
Specific requests or specialist tours falling outside this policy must be requested in writing and approved at least 2
weeks in advance by the management team. Managers or Supervisors are generally required to conduct tours of this
nature and therefore timing will be dependent upon the availability of resources.
Job “shadow” by the public, student or a child of an employee.

Pre-booking tours is essential, no tours will be offered without prior approval.
All tours are subject to availability, and there can be no guarantee that the date or time requested can be
accommodated.
Written confirmation will be provided to visitors prior to the scheduled tour.
Plant Tour Conditions of Entry to be signed by each tour participant will be provided along with the written
confirmation prior to the scheduled tour.
Participants are required to bring the signed form on the day of the tour.
If schools are attending there shall be at least a 1/9 ratio teacher/student.
The ratio of visitors per tour guide should be approx 6/1 when possible.

Tour organizer will issue details of external plant tours to Management team on a regular basis at least 2 weeks prior to the
planned tour.

Specific areas have mandatory dress requirements.
The following points will ensure the minimum dress requirements for green aisle tours are met:
Comfortable fully enclosed flat sole shoes (i.e. no high heels) must be worn
Shirt with sleeves and long legged trouser’s must be worn (no tank tops, skirts or shorts)
Safety equipment & visitor badge is required to be worn throughout the duration of the plant tour.
Inappropriate wording on clothing (i.e.: shirts) is not acceptable.
Continental – Sumter is a Tobacco free facility. Visitors are not permitted to smoke or use tobacco while on
plant property.
Special plant events may allow the admission of visitors without the prescribed protective equipment when
machines are not active – to be reviewed on a case by case basis by the management team.

General plant tours are conducted at the Continental Sumter site.
All tours will follow a standard route and contain standard general content.
Green Aisle Tours will be conducted through Mixing, Extrusion, Tire Build, Final Finish.
Tours may visit additional areas off of the Green Aisle route, if additional PPE requirements are met for the
area, in the following circumstances:

Facility is in full or partial shutdown in the area.
7.4.2
Vehicle traffic to the area has been stopped or redirected to accommodate the tour.
The tour involves approximately 1+ mile of walking.

ELIGIBILITY TO ACCESS THE MANUFACTURING PLANTS

The tour takes up to 1 hour to complete.
No person will be permitted access to the site unless they have signed a Plant Tour Conditions of Entry form.
Children under the age of 18 must have a Plant Tour Conditions of Entry form signed by a parent or legal
guardian.
All visitors must report to Guard House 1 - 15 mins prior to the tour start time.
No person under the age of 12 will be permitted access to the site during normal plant operation.
Special plant events may allow the admission of younger children when machines are not active – to be
reviewed on a case by case basis by the management team.
Students under the age of twelve (12) must be accompanied by at least one parent or teacher for every 9 students. It
is the responsibility of teachers and parents (not the tour guide) to provide supervision to the students.
Handicapped/disabled groups or groups requiring special needs will be strictly limited to five (5) in total. Each
disadvantaged visitor must be accompanied by at least one able-bodied person. This ensures Continental - Sumter
complies with legislation in ensuring visitor safety whilst on the site. There may be some areas within the plant
without appropriate wheelchair access, or which the tour guide considers unsafe for disabled participants. In such
cases, the relevant participants must not be allowed access to those areas. If a tour guide refuses a disabled person
access to any area the tour guide must arrange for a Continental representative to either: (a) remain with the disabled
person and their companion until they can rejoin the tour; or (b) if the continuation of the tour poses an unacceptable
risk to the safety of the disabled person, to escort the disabled person and their companion from the plant.
Cameras, video recorders or any type of recording device is not permitted in the manufacturing area. All mobile
phones must be left at Reception prior to the commencement of the tour.
Job Shadow
9.1
The worker to be shadowed must meet tour guide conditions as described in this policy.
9.2
No person under the age of 16 shall be permitted as a Shadow.
9.3
The Shadow must adhere to all PPE requirements that pertain to the job to be shadowed, as well as a visitor badge..
This may include

Protective footwear – Toe caps available through security

All requests for Job Shadow will be evaluated on a case by case basis.
9.4.1
Under no circumstances will a job shadow be permitted if the job takes place in an area, or has a
component that is deemed unsafe for an untrained / inexperienced person. Examples include but are not
limited to:
9.4.1.1 Respirator work
9.4.1.2 Live electrical work
9.4.1.3 Lockout/tagout conditions

If a job has a component that is hazardous for a shadow, the employee may be granted permission based on the
availability and discretion of the supervisor to accommodate restricted duty for the employee during the job shadow
9.6
The shadow is not under any circumstances permitted touch machinery, components, equipment or other
production related tools during the course of the shadow.

TOUR GUIDES / SUPERVISORS HAVE TOTAL AUTHORITY TO REFUSE ENTRY TO THE PLANT
TO ANY PARTICIPANT WHO HAS FAILED TO PROVIDE A SIGNED CONDITIONS OF ENTRY
FORM, WHO HAS ACTED IN BREACH OF THOSE CONDITIONS, OR IF ANY OF THE CONDITIONS
IN THIS POLICY ARE NOT OBSERVED.
APPLICATION FOR TOUR

Applicants must ensure that the attached Plant Tour Conditions of Entry forms are distributed to all participants
prior to the tour.
TOUR GUIDES HAVE TOTAL AUTHORITY TO REFUSE ENTRY TO THE PLANT TO ANY
PARTICIPANT WHO HAS FAILED TO PROVIDE A SIGNED CONDITIONS OF ENTRY FORM, WHO
HAS ACTED IN BREACH OF THOSE CONDITIONS, OR IF ANY OF THE CONDITIONS IN THIS
POLICY ARE NOT OBSERVED.

TOUR GUIDE
11.1
Tour guides must:

have the appropriate level of fitness required to conduct the tour/s;
be provided with a copy of this Policy and have agreed to comply with it (by signing the Tour Guide
Acknowledgement and Release); and
have signed and provided a Tour Guide Acknowledgement and Release.
INCIDENTS
12.1
In the event that the health of any of the tour participants is in issue (such as due to an injury or collapse), the tour
guide must comply with the following procedures:

Contact Continental – Sumter Medical immediately. In some cases, an ambulance may need to be called.
Ensure that the remaining tour participants are together and away from danger. Once a Medical staff member
arrives, if appropriate, the remaining participants must be escorted back to Reception if you consider that it is
inappropriate or unsafe to continue the tour.
Assist the Medical staff as necessary.
At no stage leave the remaining participants unattended or to make their own way around the site or back to
Reception.

Plant Tour Conditions of Entry
Note: All participants in plant tours must sign Plant Tour Conditions of Entry before being allowed access to
Continental – Sumter.
General guidelines:

The tour will involve up to 1 hour of walking, and cover a distance of approximately 2.5 kilometers.
Participants must therefore have a moderate level of fitness in order to undertake the tour.

Participants must dress in a shirt with sleeves, long legged trousers and fully enclosed flat sole
shoes (i.e no high heels). Participants who do not dress appropriately will be refused entry to the
site.

Participants will be provided with a visitor badge which is required to be worn through out the
duration of the plant tour. Additional protective equipment may be issued if the tour is beyond the
standard Green Aisle tour.

Full attention must be paid to your Guides at all times. Your courteous attention is appreciated,
especially whilst in the noisier areas of the plant.

Listen to any instructions given by your Guides and act immediately upon these when requested. In case
of an emergency, for example evacuation, please follow your Guides.

Your Guides may stop the tour at any stage in the interests of visitor safety or should the group (or a
participant) behave in a manner which is deemed inappropriate or unsafe.

Be aware that forklifts and other machinery will be operational during the tour.

Do not, under any circumstances touch machinery, components, equipment or other production related
tools during the course of the tour. Disregarding this point will result in the tour being suspended or
terminated immediately at the absolute discretion of the Guides.

Stay close to your Guides – do not hang back or spread out.

There will be no smoking or tobacco use on or during the tour or while on the property of
Continental - Sumter.

Do not run whilst on this site and keep within the designated walking areas.

No photographs, videos or recording are to be made whilst on the tour. You may leave any equipment
at Reception where you can collect it at the end of the tour.
In consideration of Continental the Americas LLC – Sumter Plant allowing me to participate in the plant tour scheduled
for the date set out below (Plant Tour), I agree to the following:
1. I am:
(a)
over 18 years of age and have capacity to sign this form; or
(b) over 12 years of age, and a parent or legal guardian has signed this form on my behalf.
2. I agree to conduct myself in a proper manner during and in relation to the Plant Tour, to do all things
instructed by the Guides when instructed to do so, and not do anything (or fail to do anything) which
would cause myself and/or anyone else undue risk.
3. At all times during and in relation to the Plant Tour, I will strictly and promptly comply with all directions
and instructions (whether written, verbal or otherwise) given to me by the Guides.
4. I acknowledge that:

I am participating in the Plant Tour on a voluntary basis; and

Participation in the Plant Tour is dangerous and contains inherent risks which may result in
personal injury or death; and

I am responsible for ensuring that I am sufficiently fit and healthy to participate in the Plant
Tour; and

I am responsible for arranging appropriate insurance for myself in relation to the Plant Tour;
and

Continental Tire the Americas LLC – Sumter Plant may refuse to allow me to take part in any or
all aspects of the Plant Tour, if Continental – Sumter determines, in its absolute discretion, that
I am not in the mental or physical condition necessary to be able to safely participate in an
aspect of the Plant Tour or my participation poses a danger to myself or anyone else.
5. Continental Tire the Americas LLC – Sumter Plant and its related companies and their officers,
employees and agents will not be liable for any loss (including but not limited to indirect or
consequential loss), damage or personal injury (Loss) which is suffered or sustained (including without
limitation to that caused by any person’s negligence) relating to my participation in the Plant Tour
except for any liability which cannot be excluded by law (in which case liability is limited to the minimum
amount allowable by law). I continually indemnify Continental Tire the Americas LLC and its related
companies and their officers, employees and agents against any claim or proceeding that is made,
threatened or commenced and any Loss Continental Tire the Americas LLC and/or its related
companies and/or their officers, employees and agents incurs or suffers as a direct or indirect result of
any act or omission by me in relation to my participation in the Plant Tour.
