Knights Valley Cricket Club AGM Minutes – 29/12/2014 Attendance Chris Barber Jason Maker Pete Finlay Sam Fielder Lee Payne Matt Payne Denis Payne Iain Messenger Darren Nangle Graham Cole Dan Keyworth Ian Goozee Kevin Houston Nick Franklin Chris Franklin Dave McAdam Apologies Kev Finlay Steve Reese Minutes Chairman Report Difficult season mainly due to player availabilities from Holiday/Injuries, however fantastic performance from the club to finish in the mid-table position. Was the best team spirit witnessed during the 5 years at the club for which we wish to continue into the 2015 season. Secretary Report HCB Affiliation and HCL Subscription have been paid for the 2015 season. Remaining costs include Handbooks, Cricket Balls and League Insurance which is due before March 2015. In order to save on costs, I will be exploring whether cheaper insurance packages are available. Other actions will include maintaining our player recruitment campaign and also in organizing additional friendlies for the 2015 season. Treasurer Report Raised £2,500 during 2014 season with a profit of £420.85. £500 obtained from subscriptions and match fees. £460 made on nets, cost was £440. Kit/Equipment already paid for. £239 for Insurance. Additional cost include Handbooks, Teas and additional expenditures (ie. Ground rental). To streamline the club’s cash-flow, online transfers could be used more often for match fees, subscriptions and net costs. Captain Report Very tricky season, different 11 every week, some games were handicapped from the lack of cricketers available to complete the team. Owing to these conditions we did well to retain a mid-table position; most notably with some exceptional individual performances during the season. Decided not to undertake mid-week cricket for this reason due to the presently small squad size. Next year we would like to see a consistent 11 in order to improve team’s performance of which recruiting new players will be key in achieving this. Consistency in player availability will help in putting out a competitive team week after week. Size of squad should mean that the lack of midweek cricket will not affect player inclusiveness. Selection of Officers As a result of votes, the selection of Officers for 2015 are as follows: Chairman – Denis Payne Secretary – Chris Barber Treasurer – Iain Messenger Captain – Sam Fielder Vice Captain – Dan Keyworth Team Manager/Club Captain – Lee Payne Going forwards it has been decided and agreed that the captaincy structure should be changed. Now we will have a Captain (Sam) and Vice Captain (Dan) whom will be responsible purely for on-pitch decisions. Decisions regarding team selection and also any issues regarding player availability/recruitment will be handled by the Team Manager (Lee). With regards to player selection, it is envisaged that there will be an element of communication between the Captain and Team Manager in order that some players are selected to align with the Captain’s strategy for the upcoming fixture. However the Team Manager will not be in a position to make player promises regarding batting/bowling positions; this responsibility will rest with the Captains. Player Recruitment 2 players confirmed as new joiners for next year. Discovery magazine advertisement placed by Kevin Housten which will reach 16,000 homes in Chandlers Ford. Poster campaign in Knightwood Tesco Express, Flemming Park Leisure Centre, Romsey Rapids, North Walls Winchester and Knightwood Leisure Centre. As Steve and Ian have expressed they will not be in a position to play much cricket next year, this emphasises the need for additional members. Additional players will also provide Knights Valley the opportunity to engage in other competitions (ie. Mid-week cricket) during the 2016 season. Player recruitment advertisement has also been posted on the Knights Valley Website and Twitter feed. This player recruitment campaign will be evaluated in February dependent on level of interest; further posters could be placed in local schools and colleges to gain additional interest. Subscription/Match Fees Current fees are £30 subscription and £7 per match. As this cost allows the Club to run comfortably, it is agreed that these prices will remain fixed for 2015. If Knights Valley decide to embark in extra competitions or need additional funds for other projects then these costs may be increased for 2016. It has also been proposed and agreed that a Standing Order payment of £10 per month for 10 months would cover all expenditures whilst providing a steady cash flow. This £10 per month will cover fees for Subscriptions, Matches and HCL expenditures (eg. Affiliation, Insurance etc.). Dependent on how often individuals are selected, then at the end of the season certain players may be remunerated or these funds could be invested into the end of Season activities if preferred by the respective players. Iain has agreed to cascade the bank details to the club in order that the Standing Orders can be created in January. Tour/Additional Fixtures Additional fixtures to include 4 pre/post season games. Confirmed friendlies include Braishfield, Bramshaw and Peartree. With regards to Tour, given team member commitments, a weekend would be the preferable option. Tour thoughts would include having a meal and pub session on Friday with a full cricket match on Saturday. Dan to look at potential away fixtures as a tour possibility during the end of July bye weekend. Another idea is to have a Club evening at the Ageas Bowl. Chris will investigate the possibility of club discounts on tickets. Sponsorship Kevin’s placement of an player recruitment advertisement in the Discovery magazine is recognised as a sufficient sponsorship for 2015. With regards to raising additional funds, ideas include a Bat Draw, Fun Day at Knightwood/Cleveland Bay or a Quiz Night. Concern with a Bat Draw would be interest from opposition teams during the course of the season. Although a high profile fun day could be great for the club, the resources required makes this option unachievable at this time. The best option appears to be another Knights Valley Quiz Night, possibly with Ampfield CC. Additional funding will allow the club flexibility if it wishes to invest into other development projects. Other Business Coaching – circa £35 a session, possibility of hiring for a couple of net sessions to improve player technique and performance. Matt to confirm fees and availability with Ageas Bowl. Nets Training – improved structure to nets, initial sessions could be focused around basics with batting/bowling techniques being addressed in later sessions possibly with coaching assistance. Midweek Training – proposal to establish a 10 week program of midweek sessions during the season; this will be aired initially on the club website to gauge interest from players. Bowling Machine/Sidearms – This would assist in training batsmen to play specific shots; Matt to investigate Bowling Machine cost/availability, Pete to confirm Sidearm costs. Personal storage container – Exclusive storage facilities would lower the risk of equipment damage. Confirmation required whether Test Valley Borough Council/Valley Leisure would allow this to be placed at Knightwood. Teas – Denis’s wife has kindly agreed to continue making Teas during the 2015 season. Umpiring – these duties could be shared more fairly across the whole team; this will be considered by the Captain during the 2015 season. Action Items Action Item Investigate Cheaper Insurance options for the 2015 cricket season. Organise additional pre/post season friendlies. Club account details to be cascaded to club members in order to create Standing Orders. Tour options to be investigated for end of July bye weekend. Ascertain if a there is a Club discount for Ageas Bowl tickets. Determine whether Ampfield would be interested in attending Quiz Night. Quiz Night Arrangements to be confirmed. Confirm coaching fees and availability. Improved Nets Training structure. Gauge interest for Midweek Training during 2015 season. Confirm Bowling Machine cost/availability. Confirm cost of Sidearm. Confirm whether a personal storage container could be placed at Knightwood.
