Art III Mini Concentration Ideas …
Below are some ideas that might get you jump-started in your thinking for a concentration focus. You might think of
variations or other ideas that would be appropriate; talk to me. 
Drawing:
 Pen and Ink with watercolor with investigation of design in nature
 Interpretive/expressive work based on poetry of one select writer; inclusion of written imagery in work
 Self-portrait encompassing you in personal settings, moods, everyday activities, etc.
 Personally created individual self-portraits, scanned into and manipulated on the computer, printed and
drawn back into or further manipulated
 Works dealing with value study based on expressive aspect of strong light source
 Visual and conceptual examination of an everyday object
 Works based on your personal diary of events, dream study, smells from childhood, etc.
 Drawing based on reflective surfaces – metals; water; glass reflections;
 Reflective distortions (your face in a spoon, angled mirror, etc.)
 Focus on Culture – research imagery & design; related border
 Scrapped/trash objects as theme
 Manipulated photo copies/collage/transfers/gel transfers combined with drawing
 Gridded image using color/pattern/detail for recognition/graphed (Biggers; Close; Photomosaics, etc.)

Painting:
 Painting on an unusual surface; painting is visually related to the painting
 Visual and conceptual examination of an everyday object

 Create a game board with a theme based on a book, culture, or similar graphic reference.
Sculpture/3D related:
 Chipboard/matboard/cardboard construction
 Found Object Assemblage – disguise original objects to create a focus on form
 Modular structure based on repeated use of collected recyclable objects
 Plaster gauze sculpture based on organic forms
 Personal “shrines”, reliquaries, Cornell box forms, symbolism, etc.
 Cut/layered boxed forms based on design study of an object.
 Architectural Studies – Design of Structure (positive/negative)
 Research work of Frank Stella – create a relief painting based on non-objective color composition,
abstracted imagery based on a theme or narrative, etc.
 Study in white – collect similar objects, gesso to same whiteness for sculpture
 Plaster face/body parts incorporating real objects
