Technology Lesson Grades 2nd-5th Week of September 15th-18th Title: Expectations and Goals Bridge Technology Standards: 2.2.1 2.2.3 3.2.1 3.2.2 3.2.3 4.4.1 Lesson #1 (9-15) Today is the first day back. Make sure to take your time with the lesson and really focus on the four B’s and routines of the classroom. It will save you a lot of time the rest of the year if your class knows the expectations. Materials: White board/ Smartboard INTRODUCTION: 20 min. (Make sure expectations are thoroughly covered with the class. It will save you a lot of time in the long run.) 1. Gather students on the carpet. 2. Welcome the students back for another great year! Explain that today they are going to learn about the four B’s at Bridge. 3. (They may hear about them in other classes but you will go over how to use them in the computer lab. (Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Proactive) 4. Brainstorm with the class what it means to be Safe, Respectful, Responsible, and Proactive in the computer lab. Examples: Be Safe- Four on the floor, hands and feet to yourself, etc… Be Respectful- Raise your hand, share computers, etc.. Be Responsible- Save work often, turn off computers correctly, etc… Be Proactive- Clean up after others, Try your best, etc… 5. Ask the following questions and write their responses on the chart paper. How do you think we should enter the computer lab? How do you think we should sit at the computers? How do you think we should sit on the floor? How do you think we should use supplies? How do you think we should ask for help? MODELING: 5 min. 1. Once the class has come up with expectations for all the above questions, go through each one and practice it as a class. for example, have the class leave the classroom and enter according to their expectations call on individual or groups of students to model how to sit on the floor, ask for help, etc. 2. Model how to get to the internet and play free time. INDEPENDENT WORK: 5-10 min. 1. Dismiss students to their computers in an orderly way. 2. Assist and monitor while students play on free time. Lesson #2 (9-16) Materials: Tumblebooks: I Miss Franklin P. Shuckles Username: Uniofdenver Password: books Tumble Book in Your Classroom Worksheet INTRODUCTION: 10 min. 1. Gather students on the carpet and remind them of the 4 B’s (Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Proactive) 2. Lead a brief discussion about why expectations are important for computer classes/in the computer lab. 3. Brainstorm why it is important to be respectful of other students in the classroom. MODELING: 10 min. 1. Gather students around one or two computers. 2. Model how to log on to tumblebooks. 3. Play the story I Miss Franklin P. Shuckles 4. Model how to get to fill out the Tumble Book in Your Classroom worksheet. INDEPENDENT WORK: 15 min. 1. Dismiss students to their computers in an orderly way. 2. Assist/monitor while students listen/read the story again and fill out the worksheet. 3. Once they are done, they may complete the Word Search Lesson #3 (9-17) Materials: Tumblebooks: Dad Runs Away With the Circus Username: Uniofdenver Password: Books Wikispace INTRODUCTION: 5 min. 1. Gather students on the carpet and remind them of the 4 B’s (Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Proactive) 2. Lead a discussion about why it is important to set goals and follow your dreams. 3. Brainstorm with the class, what some of their goals are this year Examples: Improve my reading, make a new friend, try something new, learn multiplication, etc… MODELING: 10 min. 1. Gather students around one or two computers. 2. Model how to get to tumblebooks. 3. Play the story: Dad Runs Away With the Circus 4. Model how to get to wikispace. 5. Select your site. 6. Model how to find your wikispace page. 7. Model how to type at least three goals for the upcoming year. (They will revisit them tomorrow) INDEPENDENT WORK: 12-15 min. 1. Dismiss students to their computers in an orderly way. 2. Assist/monitor while students type at least three goals. Lesson #4 (9-18) Materials: www.fodey.com Wikispace INTRODUCTION: 15 min. 1. Gather students on the carpet and remind them of the 4 B’s (Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Proactive) 2. Explain to the students that today they are going to revisit their goals and make them smart goals. 3. Explain to the class what a smart goal is. Specific: What exactly will you accomplish? Measureable: How will you know when you have reached this goal? Attainable: Is achieving this goal possible? Realistic: Do you have the resources to achieve this goal? Timely: When will this goal be achieved? Example: I will meet 5 new people at the Bridge Project during the 8 week summer program. 4. Brainstorm with the class what their SMART goals are. MODELING: 10 min. 1. Gather students around one or two computers. 2. Model how to get to the website www.fodey.com 3. Select either talking squirrel, tomato, owl, flower, or cat. 4. Type in your smart goal for the upcoming year. 5. Click Generate! 6. Model how to upload the animated SMART goal to your wikispace. INDEPENDENT WORK: 10-12 min. 7. Dismiss students to their computers in an orderly way. 8. Assist/monitor while students type their SMART goals.
