Important Announcements:
We are currently collecting used
shoes/boots. If you are cleaning
out your closets, please consider
sending your used shoes to school.
We hope to collect two large bags
toward our Student Council
Service Project by
Thursday….thank you.
Our Winter Book Exchange will be
on December 19th and our Cozy
Reading Day/Holiday Party will be
on December 20th. Please
purchase a NEW chapter book for
your child to give during our book
exchange. Every child will receive
a new book. Boys should purchase
a book for a boy and girls should
purchase books of interest for a
girl. Please send the book
wrapped and labeled “boy” or “girl”
on December 18th. If you are
interested in purchasing more
than one book, extra wrapped
books are appreciated for those
who may not be able to purchase
one.
LEARNING GOALS
Language Arts: We will read
about different holidays being
celebrated and learn about the
cultures and customs of different
people. Our students will practice
a fourth grade standard,
reading/following multi-step
Mrs. Cherveny
instructions. My students will
read holiday recipes and answer
questions. If you and your child
decide to make any of the recipes
at home…I would love a sample!!!
Language Works: Language
Works Volume 7. Skills include
working with the /oi/spelling
pattern, spelling ie and ei words,
identifying prefixes inter- and
trans-, determining the
differences between homophones,
using commas with introductory
elements, identifying/using
prepositions, and making our
writing more descriptive with
similes. We will have a test this
week.
Math: Chapter 10, Multiplication.
Our students will learn multiple
strategies to find products.
Students will multiply factors with
3 digits x 2 digits. Our students
will also round factors to find
estimated products. PLEASE
work with your child so that
he/she knows her basic facts
“snappy quick”. This will greatly
help him/her work efficiently and
accurately on their math. Your
child’s December multiplication
timed test will be sent home
this week.
First in Math: Encourage your
child to use their FIM license.
This is a fun and easy way to
practice multiplication facts along
with other math concepts.
and following them the first time
will be our focus this coming week.
Writing: We will write a Response
to Literature for the story, “The
Boss of the Plains.”
STUDENTS OF THE MONTH
December…stay tuned!
Science: Our students are
working in cooperative groups to
research weathering, erosion,
landslides, earthquakes, and
volcanoes. They will present their
research to the rest of the class.
P.E.: We have P.E. this year with
our new teacher, Coach Chindlund
on Tuesdays and Fridays. Please
remind your child to wear athletic
shoes/clothes on these days.
Library: Please remind your
fourth grader to return his/her
library books on Thursdays.
He/she may renew a book that
they are finishing.
Science Garden: We will be in the
science garden this week.
Music: We will have music with
Ms. CiCi the first week that we
return to school in January.
*Thanks to the families of LCM
and our PTO for supporting our
music and science garden
programs!
The 7 Habits of Happy Kids!
Yikes…as we get closer to the
holidays, we will review the habit,
“Seek first to understand… then
to be understood.” We currently
have a chatty class of fourth
graders. Listening to directions
