8 GENERATIONS WILL LIVE ALL TOGERHER
Board of Futurist Society, Murat Sahin, indicated that according to some estimates, toward the
year 2100, since the people’s life span will extend, 8 generations would live all together and he said
‘For us and for our older generations, it was an important decision to change careers, but it would be
possible to fit 2-3 career to expended life span.
Murat Sahin answered AA reporter’s questions about 1 March World Future Day Conference, which
was assembled by the Futurist Society, and he emphasized ‘People always celebrating things about
the past, however the future is so critic and important issue. Murat Sahin, points out the world
foremost futurists are thinking over and discuss about ‘Future Day’, declare that in 2013 Turkey
Futurist Society was the first society in the world, which celebrates the Future Day.
The theme of the day, which would be celebrated in 3rd times, was selected as ‘Future of the Youth’
and Murat Sahin indicates that the opening state of the event in Yeditepe University will be given by
Amy Zalman, who is known as the youngest and first women president of the World Future Society.
Concepts are changing with ‘millennial generations’.
Murat Sahin explained the reason why they decided to focus on youth for the World Future Day
like that: ‘Until today people, who analyze the life, politics, education, were only interested about
what happened in the part, collected the todays data and created the possible future scenario.
However, after 1980s, with the generations called like ‘Y generation’, ‘Millennial generation’ lots of
concepts that we don’t know keep changing.
Murat Sahin mentions that at the beginning of the changing concepts of property is coming, and he
says ‘We were living to have our own home, car, deposit in the bank, but this generation says ‘I don’t
have all these’. They say ‘I may rent a home or car just as much as I need and I prefer to live with my
hobbies.’’
Murat Sahin, who poins out that the business model renting room and vehicle is reaching millions
in a few years, expresses ‘A young man thinks he uses his car for 6-7 hours in a week, why should he
pays insurance, tax and parking ticket? Instead of that he can rent any kind of car he wants as long as
he needs.’
‘They do not accept the school system.’
Murat Sahin, who points out the point of view about the education is also changed, used these
words, ‘The do not accept the existed educational system. From now on, youth want to be involve in
the education process and they want this process to be more interactive and personal. They do not
accept the system, which only includes someone who explains everything and all students write
whatever he/she says and takes the exam about it. Today even in Turkey, it is possible for 6 year old
children to have tablets which connects to the internet. We send these children to the school and
want to draw them ‘straight lines on 3 pages’ even though they are able to do more things. that’s the
reason why they do not accept this system.
Our accessibilities to knowledge is changing. Until today, we can easily use the knowledge in the
internet and generate a new knowledge incredibly rapidly. In the world, the amount of information
produced today in a 6 months, is the same amount of information produced by humanity throughout
history.’ He expresses the schools will change the way in near future and says ‘We may not go to
school. We may have our virtual avatar or we may have education in our homes in a virtual class with
students from 5-6 different places of the world.’
He also emphasizes the improvement in the technology and its effect on the extended life span,
also mentions that ‘In 2100, it is predicted that 8 generations from the same family will live all
together. A person who is born today will be 85 year old and still be young in 2100. If the life
prolongs, the thoughts come up to fit to this life a few more career experience.’
‘There is no place that we didn’t leave trail behind us.’
‘Bit Brother’, which is given as example of future scenario, and he says ‘Today, there is no place that
we did not leave any trail behind us. Our phone, credit cards, money that we take from the bank and
waste… When we are at home, when we are online, when we use the electricity. They are all related
to digital systems. It is nearly not possible for people to live without leaving any trail behind. The
issue about being followed should be passed. Mura Sahin thinks the actions taken under records can
be used in any ways and he mentions ‘ The bank system uses the data so impressive that they can
predict the possibility of people’s divorce bore 18 months. Sometimes even those people have no
idea that they are going to get divorce in those months. It is possible to locate the tendency of
people to commit a crime by using algorithms.’
‘Space tourism is staring’
Murat Sahin points out that the most interesting thing in the world will be the space tourism and
says ‘ It is toughed that in 2018 13-15 thousand people will travel to the space as a trip. It is predicted
around 2 trillions dollars. In 2020, the annual income of space tourism will be between around 650
million dollars and 1milliard dollars. That’s why we need to be prepared that kind of things and need
to draw new pathways according to these improvements.’ He says even we do not have good
scenario, wee need to find positive pathways and he mentions about global worming as an example
to that. He says Black Sea area may be the tourism destination as popular as Mediterranean Sea.
