Materials A. You are required to have a 1.5 inch binder with 4 dividers just for Spanish I. B. loose leaf paper to turn in class work and homework C. Small Spanish-English dictionary D. blue or black ink pens, pencils, erasers. Please DO NOT USE RED INK PENS. III. Course Description This is a level I Spanish Language class. This course is designed to allow students to communicate in the target language by using the skills of speaking, listening, reading, and writing at a mid- basic level. IV. Major Course Goals Course of study covered will be used to reinforce intercultural awareness. This will be accomplished by encouraging students to be aware of Spanish-speaking cultures and their relation to their own culture. Additional content covered will encourage students to become aware of their relationship to a variety of global perspectives. The target language will be used during at least 90% of the class. V. D. – Daily grades (class Participation, Listening, reading writing/speaking) - Tests /Oral and written presentations or projects – - Written Quizzes /Group Conversation – Homework miscellaneous activities – Grade Scale: Based on point values figured on a straight percentage – 1) Quizzes/Writing/Speaking Assignments 25% 2) Homework 10% 3) In class participation 25% 3) Unit tests/ Projects 40% 4) Final exam is 20% of grade. IX. Students Expectations: Daily attendance and participation are crucial. Daily and weekly assessments: Students will have five (5) days to Make-up work or missing tests if there is an excused absence. Be in your seat when the second bell rings. Do not stand outside the door between classes. Be prepared for class and bring all your materials to class every day. Do not chew gum or eat candy in class. Be polite, courteous and respectful at all times. Raise your hand before you speak. Remain in your seat until you are dismissed. Practice the target language. X. Discipline Procedures If students are not in the classroom when the tardy bell rings, they will be considered tardy. After the third tardy, student may be given up to 3 days of detention. Students should be prepared every day. Being unprepared 2 times may result in a disciplinary slip. Minor discipline problems will be warned two times, a third time will receive an Office Referral. Examples of minor discipline problems are: excessive talking, hollering, chewing gum, walking in the classroom unnecessarily, and/or standing at the door. Failure to bring materials to class will result in a warning the first time, detention or Discipline referral thereafter. Fighting, profanity, cheating, stealing: Immediate Office Referral.
