Internship Opportunity Terms of Reference Communications Web intern Location: New York Deadline: 15 November 2015 (only short-listed candidates will be contacted for interviews, within a week of the deadline. A decision is expected by end of November) Start Date: January or February – July or August 2016 Duration: 6 months (4 or 5 months is possible but preference will be given to interns available for 6 months) The Communications Section at UN Women Headquarters in New York seeks to enlist a full-time intern to support the Web Editor. The intern will assist with writing, editing, proofreading and posting content on the UN Women website and related platforms. Duties and Responsibilities Under the supervision of the Web editor, the intern will be responsible for the following: Writing or editing content for the UN Women website o Keeping abreast of relevant news and UN Women activities or programmes in the field, monitoring regional and country websites, and suggesting topics for news or feature story coverage o Researching thematic or regional ideas for the drafting of feature stories. o Attending events in New York and writing news stories for the website o Assisting with proofreading and/or editing speeches or stories produced by field offices. o Writing or translating short blurbs for the homepage carousel. Web production on the UN Women website o Using UN Women’s content management system (Sitecore), the intern will post content, including photos and other media, on both websites, as well as crossposting web content on other fora, such as our community blogs. o Update an inventory of our latest news and feature story content During the Commission on the Status of Women in March 2016, and for other key events, support editorial/web production. Other tasks as requested by the Communications Team Requirements/Qualifications: Must have a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in either Journalism or Communications. Students in the final year of a Bachelor’s programme as well as recent graduates (maximum one year after graduation) may also be considered. Preference will be given to candidates recently granted, or in the process of pursuing, a Master’s or advanced university degree programme in any field. Experience working in either journalism or institutional communications and experience with web publishing. Proficiency in using new technologies, content management systems and web-based platforms. Knowledge of HTML, other scripts and basic web design are a plus. Attention to detail, precision and caution when posting content on public fora. Fluency in English. Preference will be given to candidates also fluent in French and/or Spanish. Knowledge of Arabic, Chinese or Russian is also an asset. Familiarity with women’s rights issues or international development/relations. Strong writing and editing skills, attention to spelling and ability to follow style guides.
