Read the Commission on Assessment Without Levels report and the government's response The Commission on Assessment Without Levels has produced advice and support for schools in developing new approaches to assessment following the removal of levels. The Commission has focused its attention on providing advice that will build understanding and expertise and will guide schools through the thinking required to develop effective new approaches to assessment. The report encourages schools to think carefully about the purposes and principles of assessment and have the confidence to develop approaches that are not time consuming or bureaucratic. Commission on Assessment Without Levels: final report Commission on Assessment Without Levels: government response Read the KS1 and KS2 interim teacher assessment frameworks We have published interim frameworks for teacher assessment for use in 2016, following the removal of national curriculum levels. Teachers must use these frameworks this academic year to make teacher assessment judgements for each pupil at the end of key stages 1 and 2. The interim frameworks set out the standard(s) a child will be assessed against at the end of the key stage for each subject. Each framework contains a number of 'pupil can' statements such as 'the pupil can write for a range of purposes and audiences (including writing a short story) creating atmosphere, and integrating dialogue to convey character and advance the action'. To show that pupils have met the standard, teachers will need to have evidence that a pupil demonstrates consistent attainment of all the statements within the standard.
