THE PROJECT
National Highway No. 57 is one of the major arteries of the road network system in the State
of Bihar connecting Muzaffarpur City with Purnea. It traverses through the major district
headquarters of the state viz., Darbhanga and Forbesganj.
Nearly 10.635 Km. Project Highway section of NH-57, starts from Km. 148.550 near Tharia
village on Nirmali side and ends at 159.185 near Chandpipar village on Kishanpur side. Thus in
order to provide a better level of service to vehicular traffic it has been apprised to augment
the capacity of NH-57 by constructing Kosi Bridge and its approaches between Ring Bund
and Eastern Embankment which will not connect the two part of Mithnachal, but also two
sub-divisions of district Supaul..
In order to channelize the water of Kosi River and to protect the Bridge and its approaches,
construction of Guide Bund perpendicular to the centre line of bridge and Afflux Bund joining
the edges of Guide Bund on the upstream side with Ring Bund on Western Side and Eastern
Embankment on Eastern Side.
SCOPE OF PROJECT:
This Project has been executed on the site, which is described in Project Site chapter of the
Concession Agreement. The scope of the project shall include performance and execution
by the Concessionaire of all Design, Engineering, Financing, Procurement, Construction,
Completion, Operation and Maintenance of the Project Highway. It includes Improvement,
Operations, Maintenance, Rehabilitation and Strengthening of the existing missing link of NH57 road and widening it to a 4-lane divided carriageway including Kosi Bridge and its
approaches from Km. 148.550 to Km. 159.185 in the State of Bihar on Annuity basis.
M/s. Kosi Bridge Infrastructure Company Limited was the Concessionaire and M/s. Wilbur
Smith Associates Inc in JV with Wilbur Smith Associates Pvt. Ltd., was the Independent
Consultant for the Project. The independent Consultant has been demobilised from
08.02.2013 after spending one year period during O & M after issuance of Provisional COD.
The COD is under consideration of NHAI, HQ now.
