The Pathways to Education Program

is an initiative of the Regent Park Community Health Centre. The mission of
Pathways is to reduce poverty and its effects by supporting the development of youth from economically disadvantaged communities and promoting their individual health and the health of the community by addressing two principal social determinants of health: education and income.
Mentoring – Program Facilitator Career Mentoring
Contract, full time (35 hrs/ wk) March 23- June 26, 2015
Salary range: $21.25/hr + 4% vacation pay
The Program Facilitator- Career Mentoring Program Facilitator will work closely with Student Parent Support
Workers (SPSWs) and the other Program Facilitators to facilitate student career and post secondary exploration. The critical function of this position is to provide timely, accurate and proactive advice to support student post secondary aspirations through: partnership development with high schools and post secondary institutions, campus tours, hosting career and educational information sessions exposing students to a wide variety of educational choices and career paths.
Responsibilities:
Facilitate workshops on post secondary planning including OUAC, OCAS, OSAP process, scholarship and supplementary application writing
Liaise and maintain contact with post secondary institutions and community organizations to support student transition after high school
Organize meetings as needed with SPSWs, parents and students to share strategies, information and resources regarding students
Maintain accurate and up to date client documentation
Qualifications:
Post secondary college or university degree and or related work experience
Experience working directly with youth within a community or educational setting
Experience working with youth with a variety of learning styles and needs
Experience of secondary and post secondary curriculum, requirements and systems
Experience utilizing post secondary systems and application databases (OUCA, OCAS, OSAP)
Knowledge of anti-oppressive concepts and their application
Verbal and written fluency in a second language is an asset
This position involves flexible hours to include weekday evenings (including occasional weekends).
