Course description:
Integrated Math 1 is a combination of algebra, geometry, and statistics and probability. Major algebra topics
include equations, functions, linear and quadratic functions, systems of equations, polynomials, and
rational expressions. Geometry topics include perimeter, circumference, area, volume, lateral area,
and surface area of common geometric figures. Other topics include statistics and probability. This course
will involve group work, along with independent work, and will strive to make each student a better
mathematical thinker and problem solver by practicing important habits of mind, such as detecting and
analyzing patterns, visualizing situations, inventing, experimenting, making conjectures about and tinkering with
the behavior of functions, data and other mathematical relationships. Students will also become familiar with
and engage in the use of the 8 Common Core Math Practice Standards:
 Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them
 Reason abstractly and quantitatively
 Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others
 Model with mathematics; 5) Use appropriate tools strategically
 Attend to precision
 Look for and make use of structure
 Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning.
Free Public Education:
The Constitution of the State of California requires that we provide a public education to you free of charge.
Your right to a free education is for all school/educational activities, whether curricular or extracurricular,
and whether you get a grade for the activity/class. Subject to certain exceptions, your right to a free public
education means that we cannot require you or your family to purchase materials, supplies, equipment or
uniforms for any school activity, nor can we require you or your family to pay security deposits for access,
participation, materials, or equipment. You may be required to attend a fundraising event; however, if you are
unable to raise funds for the event, you will not be prevented from participating in an educational activity.
For more information, visit www.sandi.net/staff/studentfees.
Errors in scheduling and inappropriate level placement:
Please refer to the school websitewww.srhsfalcons.org, Students>Counseling Center>Course Catalog for more
detailed information.
Homework Policy:
Homework will be assigned on a daily basis. These assignments are most often related to topics discussed in
class, though review problems may occasionally be assigned. HOMEWORK MUST BE COMPLETED BEFORE OF
THE NEXT CLASS MEETING unless assigned a specific due date. Homework will be posted in the classroom each
day and on www.srhfalcons.org under Staff Directories, Teaching Staff, Barbara Greer. Late homework will not
be accepted except for excused absences. Late work due to an excused absence is due within one week of the
absence.
Homework and classwork must meet the following criteria to receive full credit:
 All problems must be attempted. If a student does not know how to do a problem, they must write down
what they tried and/or where they looked for help.
 All problems must be written down, including accompanying diagrams, charts, etc.. Lengthy word problems
may be represented in appropriately labeled charts or diagrams or summarized with all important
information included.
 Work must be shown on all problems unless otherwise specified by the teacher.
 Work must be organized.
 Work and answers to problems reviewed in class must be correct when handed in. Students will be given
time to make corrections for full credit if they have attempted all problems on time.
Scholarship Grades:
Grades will be determined as follows:

Tests/quizzes missed due to excused absences may be made up within one week of the missed test or quiz.
Students who are truant the day of a test/quiz will receive a ZERO on the assessment and may not make it up.
Tests and quizzes will be returned by one week following the assessment.
Homework may be checked for completeness on a daily basis.
It is the student’s responsibility to request any work missed during an absence. A notebook will be available in
the classroom for those who need to find out what they missed. Handouts will be made available next to the
notebook. Students may need to get their notes from another student. While students may copy a day’s notes
from another student, they MAY NOT copy the other student’s work. Students found copying assignments,
including warm-ups and classwork, will be receive a ZERO on the assignment and may be subject to the
consequences stated in the SRHS Academic Honesty - Integrity policy on pages 28 and 29 of the student
handbook.
Notebooks and any classwork or homework may be checked and graded periodically upon teacher request (see
above for work grading criteria).
Citizenship Grades:
Grades are based on:
 Classroom behavior
 Cooperation with other students and the teacher
 Attendance, tardiness, and truancy. Please read pages 6-8 in the student handbook for the truancy and
tardy policies
 Participation in classroom discussions and activities and completion of classwork and homework.
 Academic Honesty – Please read pages 29 - 31 in the student handbook
 ‘E’ – the student has a positive influence on everyone in the class
 ‘G’ – the student has a positive influence on the group of students around him or her
 ‘S’ – the student is not a negative influence on those around and works well for themselves
 ‘N’ – the student’s behavior needs improvement and is negative in some way sometimes
 ‘U’ – the student’s behavior in unsatisfactory and is often negative
Academic Honesty - Integrity:
Violation of the Academic Honesty Policy may result in a “0” on any assignment on which a student is caught
copying any or all of another student’s work or assessment and an ‘F’ in the course. See pages 29 - 31 of the
student handbook for the complete details of this policy.
Communication:
Grades for tests and quizzes will usually be posted on Power School within one week of the assessment.
Students will usually receive a composite work grade(a grade for his/her work over the course of, usually, two
weeks) every two weeks. Please check grades periodically and contact me immediately if you feel there are any
errors in your grade or you want further information about your grade. Hardcopies of grades are available upon
request.
Please feel free to contact me at bgreer@sandi.net any time you have questions or concerns.
Classroom Rules:
SRHS students will treat each other with respect and demonstrate respect for the role each person plays in
the school community. Specifically, students should follow the School-wide Classroom Rules found on the
first page(i) of the student handbook and the following:
 Be on task
 Be respectful
 Be on time
 Be prepared
Bathroom/Hall passes:
Student will receive 2 bathroom passes for every 6-week grading period. Other bathroom passes may not be
given. Other reasons for leaving the classroom must be taken care of before or after school or during lunch.
Attendance:
The mathematics staff of Scripps Ranch High School believes that an absence from class for whatever reason can
only have a detrimental effect on students’ progress and grades. Furthermore, the staff believes that
punctuality is a trait worthy of development in every student for good citizenship. Therefore, scholarship and
citizenship grades may be lowered as a result of truancies, tardies, and/or unexcused absences.
Dress Code:
Students found in violation of the dress code may be sent to the office to change into appropriate attire and
possible administrative disciplinary actions. Students are required to make up all missed work on their own
time. Please read page 22 of the student handbook for a detailed description of the SRHS dress code.
Tardy Policy:
All students are expected to be in class and ready to learn when the bell begins to ring. Please refer to page 7
in the student handbook for the SRHS tardy policy.
Truancies and Unexcused Absences:
A truancy is defined as any unauthorized absence, including a partial class absence. After 5 days, any unverified
absence (code A) becomes an unexcused absence (code U). Students with excessive unexcused absences (5 or
more per semester) must clear them by attending Saturday School. Students who miss Saturday School
assignments may lose extracurricular participation privileges.
Please read pages 6 - 8 of the student handbook for a detailed description of the SRHS attendance and truancy
policies.
Tutoring:
Students needing extended help outside of class may come in after school or during lunch on the days posted in
class and on my webpage on the school website until 3:00pm. Students are always welcome to come by any day
after school for a few minutes if they just need quick clarification on the day’s lesson.
Cellular Phones, Pagers, and Other Electronic Signaling Devices:
Students may only use cell phones, pagers, and other electronic signaling devices on campus before school,
during lunch and after school. These devices must be kept out of sight and turned off during the instructional
program. Unauthorized use of such devices, including issues relating to academic honesty, disrupts the
instructional program and distracts from the learning environment. Therefore, unauthorized use is grounds for
confiscation of the device by school officials, including classroom teachers. Confiscated devices will be given to
the school police officer and may be returned to the parent or guardian after school. Repeated unauthorized
use may lead to disciplinary action. If a student refuses to give the cell phone or any electronic device to the
teacher, the matter will be referred to the vice-principal for additional consequences (i.e. Saturday School,
suspension).
In addition, school personnel, including school police, do not have the resources to investigate instances of
lost or stolen property unless suspect information is provided. School police will not conduct a police
investigation or take a police report.
This policy is also found on page 18 of the SRHS Student Handbook.
I DO NOT ALLOW ANY ELECTRONIC DEVICES EXCEPT CALCULATORS IN MY CLASSROOM AT ANY TIME and
will confiscate any device that is within my sight or hearing without warning. Exceptions to this policy must be
obtained from me prior to the use of any electronic device except calculators.
