2015-2016 CODE OF CONDUCT Hayes Middle School Code of Conduct HAYES MIDDLE SCHOOL STAFF HAVE THE RIGHT TO REVIEW, CHANGE, OR MODIFY RULES TO BETTER SERVE THE STUDENTS AT HAYES MIDDLE SCHOOL. Rule Dress Code Violation a. Short shorts/skirts, Exposed Skin (chest, stomach, shoulders), Sagging pants, Inappropriate Language/Design Cell Phone/Electronics Violation/Headphones a. Must be turned off and kept in locker Disruptions a. Talking/Noises/Gestures, Throwing Objects Out of Seat, Passing Notes, Horseplay, excessive talking, etc. Disrespectful Behavior toward Staff a. Arguing, Inappropriate Body Gestures, mocking Extreme Disrespect a. Profane Language/Gestures toward Staff/ Student Disrespect to Students Any Actions - Verbal, Written, or Physical Profanity Fighting (any striking of another student - hands, feet, elbows, shoving, kicking, hitting, etc) Every 4th Tardy Harassment/Bullying (Verbal, Physical, Cyber) Extreme Case of Harassment may result in immediate Suspension Skipping 5 or more minutes late or out of you assigned area Piercing/Tattoos a. Ears only, no face or body piercings b. Tattoos must be covered ALC VIOLATIONS Cheating Destruction of School Property – textbooks, iPad, furniture, technology equipment, walls, etc. Theft Truancy Smoking or Possession of Tobacco Consequence New clothing or Call Parent Repeated Offenses will be treated as insubordination ALC 2 Page Essay Refusal to give up electronic device is ALC 1st Offense – Verbal Warning Repeated Offenses – D-Hall CONTINUOUS CLASSROOM DISRUPTIONS WILL RESULT ALC Verbal Warnings Repeated Offenses – ALC Suspension Verbal Warnings Repeated Offenses – D-Hall CONTINUOUS VIOLATIONS MAY RESULT IN A BEHAVIOR PLAN FOLOWED BY 1st Offense – ALC - Repeated Violations – Suspension Suspension CONTINUOUS VIOLATIONS MAY RESULT IN A ALTERNATIVE PLACEMENT Essay 1st Offense – Verbal Warning or D-Hall CONTINUOUS VIOLATIONS MAY RESULT INALC OR SUSPENSION ALC Failure to remove piercings will result in a suspension Any disruption of ALC will result in a suspension Loss of Credit and/or ALC Repair and/or Restitution and/or ALC + Suspension ALC or Suspension, Restitution, Legal Charges 5 unexcused absences, social worker contacted 1st Offense - Smoking Cessation Class Repeated Offenses – Suspension and Continued Smoking Cessation Opportunities Threatening Others (Verbal/Physical/Cyber) Extreme Threats/Drugs/Alcohol – shoot/kill/harm others Technology Abuse Taking OR Posting Inappropriate Videos/Pictures of Students ALC or Suspension Suspension with Possible Referral to Alternative School, Expulsion Refer to County Acceptable Use Policy ALC OR Suspension if it shows any signs of bullying, harassment, sexual pictures, or embarrassment *D-HALL IS A 30 MINUTE “QUIET LUNCH” IN THE CAFETERIA. D-HALL IS AN INTERNAL SCHOOL CONSEQUENCE. PARENTS WILL NOT BE NOTIFIED OF D-HALL. IT IS THE STUDENT’S RESPONSIBILITY TO INFORM PARENTS OF ALL D-HALL OFFENSES. ALC THE ALTERNATE LEARNING CENTER (ALC) REINFORCES POSITIVE BEHAVIOR WITH DIRECT SUPERVISION AND SUPPLEMENTAL ASSIGNMENTS. EACH STUDENT WILL BE ASSIGNED AN ALC TEACHER THAT WILL SUPERVISE EACH DAY OF ALC. AN ALC PLACEMENT WILL FOCUS ON EFFORT, RULE COMPLIANCE, AND BASIC SKILL ACQUISITION. ALC STUDENTS STAY IN ONE CLASS SO DISTRACTIONS ARE MINIMIZED AND WORK IS COMPLETED. *ANY THREATS, HARRASSMENTS OR DISRUPTIONS THAT AFFECT STUDENTS AT HAYES MIDDLE SCHOOL BECAUSE OF FACEBOOK, MYSPACE, TEXTING, ETC WILL FACE DISCIPLINARY ACTIONS *ANY RULE VIOLATIONS ON THE WAY OR FROM SCHOOL IS CONSIDERED A SCHOOL MATTER AND WILL FACE DISCIPLINARY ACTION. REFUSING TO GIVE TECH (PHONE/IPAD) TO STAFF AFTER A VIOLATION 6. INSUBORDINATION TO STAFF – FAILURE TO FOLLOW STAFF DIRECTIVES 7. CONTINUOUS BULLYING OR HARASSMENT 8. SOCIAL MEDIA VIOLATIONS 9. THEFT 10. DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY – UNDER $100 BASIC SUSPENSION OFFENSES 1. FIGHTING OF ANY KIND 2. 3RD OFFENSE SMOKING/TOBACCO 3. ALCOHOL/DRUGS 4. DANGEROUS THREATS (VERBAL, WRITTEN, CYBER) 5. DIRECTING PROFANITY/VULGAR LANGUAE TOWARD STAFF OR STUDENTS 6. VIOLATING ALC RULES 7. DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY – OVER $100 8. EXTREME INSUBORDINATION – COMPLETE RUFUSAL TO FOLLOW STAFF DIRECTIVES 9. 4TH ALC OFFENSE
