Attention Seniors Planning to attend Indiana University Bloomington!
The Avon Guidance Department is now accepting applications for the prestigious Wells Scholarship. This
is a full tuition scholarship to IU. Avon High School can nominate two students to progress on to the
interview stage of the selection process at IU. In past years, winners of the Wells Scholarship ranked in
the top 5% of their graduating class and had an average combined SAT score of 1430. Applications can
be picked up in the ALC Guidance Office. Deadline to turn in applications to ALC Guidance is Monday,
September 16th.

Miami University, Oxford, OH Attend the Bridges Program! It’s an overnight visit experience for highachieving high school seniors!
Bridges Program Dates:
Session I: October 27-28, 2013
Session II: November 3-4, 2013
Session III: November 10-11, 2013
Session IV: November 17-18, 2013
Food, lodging, activities, and some travel expenses will be covered for participants. Students who
complete Bridges and enroll at Miami’s Oxford campus will receive a $10,000 scholarship ($2,500 per
year).The Bridges application will be available August 1, and the deadline to apply is September 16th.

Attention Seniors! Need help completing your college applications! Sign up in Naviance to attend a
College Application Help Session on Tues. Sept. 3 or Tues. Sept. 24 in the ALC Lecture Hall. ALC Senior
Counselors will be on hand to help and answer your questions.
Attention all students who are interested in joining the Eco Club. We will be having a callout meeting and
electing officers on TODAY from 3:00 to 3:30 after school in the ALC room 225. If you are interested in
recycling, cleaning up the outdoors, and being a leader in our school and community, join the Eco Club
on Thursday, August 15th after school in ALC 225.
If you support equality for all people, then the Gay-Straight Alliance is for you. The AHS GSA provides a
safe place for students to meet, support each other, talk about issues related to sexual orientation and
gender identity and expression, and work to end homophobia and transphobia. The first GSA meeting is
TOODAY in the ALC LGI room right after school. For any questions please contact Mrs. Gleissner, Mrs.
Fable, or President Katie Brewer.
Attention all students who are interested in joining African Diaspora! We will have a call-out meeting
TODAY after school from 3-3:30 in the AALC Lecture Hall. See Miss Moore or Señora Robinson for any
questions.
TODAY a Hip Hop Master Class will be offered from 3:15-5:00pm. Class will be taught by Avon Alumni,
Michael Chung and is free of charge. This is open to all AHS students and will be held in room G115.
Avon's National Honor Society of Dance Arts will hold its annual call out meeting on Wednesday, August
21 from 3-3:30pm in G115. Those interested in joining this year should attend the meeting to find out
details about our club.
Any girl who is interested in playing basketball this year and missed the call-out meeting on Tuesday,
needs to attend a meeting Thursday morning from 7:30-7:50 in room A105. If for some reason you cannot
attend, see Coach Cupp in A105 or Coach Keller in B106.
The Avon Boys Soccer program is hosting a car wash fundraiser this Saturday, August 17th from 10am4pm. The car wash will take place at the Arby's on Rockville Road. Please come and get your car washed
and support the boys soccer program at the same time!
