Vice Chancellor's Scholarships
These PhD scholarships are on offer to invest in students who can contribute to our
research strategy. The scholarship includes full-time Home/EU tuition fees and a
maintenance bursary for 3 years of full time study. The maintenance bursary will be
paid at the RCUK national rate which is £13863 for 2014/15.
Deadline for applications
The closing date for scholarship applications is 12 pm on Tuesday May 6th 2014.
Research Areas
Applications in a wide range of health and social care research are welcome,
including: allied health professions, nursing, midwifery and social work. Examples of
our research can be found on the Centre website. This also has a section of staff
contacts.
Eligibility
1) Scholarships are open to Home/EU applicants only
2) Applicants should hold at least a strong undergraduate degree (2:i or better) and
ideally also a relevant Masters qualification (or expectation of same)
3) Candidates who already hold a PhD offer from CHSCR (to start in September
2014) are eligible to apply for a scholarship. Currently enrolled PhD students are not
eligible.

All applicants wishing to be considered for a PhD scholarship need to submit a
standard University application form for postgraduate study and a CV by e-mail to
chscr@shu.ac.uk Please indicate clearly in the body of your e-mail your availability
for interview in weeks beginning 12th and 19th May
Deadline for studentship applications:
The closing date for studentship applications is 12 p.m. on Tuesday May 6 th 2014.
Interviews will be held in weeks beginning 12th May and 19th May 2014.
Selection process:
Applicants will be required to give a short presentation (10-15 minutes) followed by
an interview. Interview panel members will include the Head of Postgraduate
Research and a prospective Director of Studies.
