Misr El Kheir Qualifying Program for Postgraduate Students Introduction: Misr El Kheir Foundation (MEK) has started an initiative called “Idrak” aiming at offering outstanding studies opportunities in the field of Technical Education through establishing ten Technical Education Institutes, in addition to a Technical University that offers undergraduate and graduate programs. The program’s vision is enhancing the technical students’ competencies to meet the market place challenges locally and internationally and the improvement of Technical Education quality in Egypt. In continuation of Idrak’s vision, MEK plans for announcing a new program to qualify post graduate students in the fields of sciences, technology and technical studies through offering a well-structured training program. The program is aiming at solving the difficulties that the students would face in their application process for obtaining scholarships abroad. Objective: The program targets post graduate students who are seeking international scholarships for pursuing their master’s degrees and are facing obstacles in their application process. The program’s main goal is to improve these students’ credentials and competencies to well prepare them for meeting the minimum application’s requirements and to maximize their chances for getting international scholarships. Post graduate students from Egyptian national universities lack a lot of important skills that are compulsory for a successful application; i.e. language capabilities, soft skills, research requirements, easy writing and most importantly, they don’t have the knowledge of appropriate and available international programs. The program will tailor a well-designed qualifying course to assist potential students overcoming these challenges and be capable for competing in international scholarship programs. Also, the program will provide the students with advices and consultations on available programs and application process. Program Description: 1- Program Component: a. Step 1: Training: Selected applicants will be enrolled in a training program as step one to prepare them for application and enrollment in international scholarship programs. Using currently existing training program offered by Faculty and Leadership Development Center (FLDC) at Cairo University. The center is accredited by Intentional Board of Certified Trainers (IBCT), trainers and training materials are all accredited as well. o The Center offers the following training programs: Scientific Research: International Publishing of Scientific Research Managing Research Teams Research Ethics Group Communication and Interaction Communication Skills Effective Presentation Skills University Code of Ethics Each subject’s duration is 15 credit hours. The enrolled applicants will go through post assessment tests by the Center, shortlisted students will enter the second step of the program: Advisory Services and Application Assistance. b. Step 2: i. Advisory Services: Providing advisory services to shortlisted applicants on how to search and get accepted in international scholarship programs. This service to be offered by alumni of reputable international programs to share their success experiences; i.e. Fulbright alumni. ii. Application Assistance: Shortlisted applicants will be entitled to the following provisions: o Application fees, up to 10 applications o Cost of all required pre-requisite tests; International TOEFL, GRE, etc.. o In case of selection, Visa fees Travel Ticket 2- Targeted number of applicants: Step 1: 150 students per academic year Step 2: 50 students per academic year Program Application: 1- Eligibility Requirements: National universities’ graduates with a minimum average grade of “very good” Postgraduate students at Faculties of Sciences, Agriculture and Engineering at National Universities Minimum local TOEFL Score of 500 from Amideast 2- Applicant will be required to submit an online application no later than March 30, 2012 3- Eligible applicants will go through the following screening process: a. Assessment test; i.e. EQ test b. Interview 4- Accepted applicants will sign a contract with the foundation stipulating the program’s provisions and their commitment to participate in the Foundation’s relevant activities to their fields of specializations 5- In case that some applicants couldn’t obtain full scholarships, they will be encouraged to apply to the Foundation’s supplemental scholarship program.
