LAYERS OF THE EARTH PROJECT 6th Grade Science—Mrs. Jones Directions: Make a 3-dimensional model of the layers inside the Earth. Use different colors for the 4 main layers of the Earth (use your notes and handouts). Also correctly show and label the zones of the Lithosphere and Asthenosphere. Try to make your layers proportionate (that is- they should be adjusted in size relative to other sizes) In the spirit of caring for the Earth we challenge you to be CREATIVE by using all or mostly RECYCLED materials rather than new materials. Due Date is Monday, October 8, 2012 Requirements: 3-Dimentional model that is smaller than soccer ball, but larger than a tennis ball. Must have 4 different colors for your Earth layers. Include the Lithosphere and Asthenosphere zones. Label the layers and zones. Proportion is important. (Proportion is getting the sizes of objects correct in relation to other objects.) So, the crust should clearly appear to be the thinnest layer. Must be made out of mostly reclaimed (recycled) materials. Include an index card with your name, the steps you used in constructing your masterpiece, and list materials you used (both recycled and new). Be creative! Make your model & labels neat. Be proud of your work. Spelling counts! Make sure your name and class period are visible on project. See grading rubric on back for more guidance. Due on or before Monday, October 8, 2012. Each day project is late is 10 points off. Get parents/guardian’s signature by Monday, September 24, 2012. Return this page with your project. I am aware that my child has 3D Layers of the Earth Model project which is due Monday, October 8, 2012. ______________________________________________ Parent/Guardian signature __________________________________ Student’s Name Name __________________________________ Class period______ Due 10/8/12 Grading Rubric CATEGORY Parts of the Earth 3 All layers and zones included 2 3-5 layers and zones included 1 1-2 layers and zones included Total points Total X4 Spelling All items spelled correctly All layers and regions labeled accurately Obviously proportional.
