LTHS Parent Teacher Council
January 9, 2013
Speaker: Jeanne Widing, LTHS Student Assistance Program Coordinator spoke about stress
management for students.
Attendance: Kate Brogan, Tami Powers, Jeanne Widing, Amy Best, Erin Piotrowski, Nancy O’Brien.
Meeting called to order at 8:18pm.
Minutes: November minutes provided by Tami Powers. Erin Piotrowski motioned to approve.
Seconded by Nancy O’Brien. The November minutes were approved.
Correspondence: Stacia Kopplin via e-mail reported receipt of thank you notes from a few clubs who
received PTC grants. PTC sent cards to: John Musick (Music teacher) and his wife Sara on the birth of
their son; Kurt Johns (PE teacher) and his wife Courtney on the birth of their son; Patrick O’Neil (English
teacher – SC) and his wife Meaghan on the birth of their son. PTC also sent a card to Scott Yount,
teacher in the Special Ed department, whose father passed away.
Treasurers Report: Nancy O’Brien presented financial reports on behalf of Wendy Bastyr. More revenue
from directory and calendar fees came in since November. Wendy paid $1,000 grant to Parent
University, as well as Bus Driver Appreciation Breakfast and Future Freshman Night funding.
President’s Report: Kate Brogan reported on recent news at LT: congratulations to WLTL on its award
as best station in nation; Dr. Kilrea e-mailed information on counseling after the shooting in Newtown,
CT; District 204 is working with IDOT, La Grange and Western Springs on installing traffic signal at Willow
Springs in 2014. The Board of Ed approved funding for Young Hearts for Life cardiac screening in fall of
2013. The LT College Center has partnered with Saint Xavier University to provide junior and senior
students and parents with access to “Financial Fit”, part of the “College Countdown” online
program. Access for LTHS is sponsored by St. Xavier University.
Committee Reports:
Chaperones-Tracey Naughton to begin recruiting chaperones for King of Hearts dance at end of Feb.
Communications- Jim O’Malley: Updates to page for post prom and have info on future freshman night
Future Freshman Night-Erin Piotrowski reported that the PTC table had good turnout at Future
Freshman Night. Bridget Madro and Linda Hyerdall coordinated the event.
Post Prom- Nancy O’ Brien, Barb Shea, Ed Suarez, Maria Pekar hope to meet next week, planning online
auction again in March. LT has again donated graduation tickets/parking and other school related items
for online auction. Boosters have also contributed LT sports items auction. Other items being sought
include sports tickets. Cash donations are being solicited. In-kind donations from local businesses may
be used for auction or for raffle prizes. Nancy reported that PTC needs to recruit future leaders for Post
Prom Committee to keep committee going strong.
Old Business: We approved $37,009.31 in grants to student organizations. Students have been
notified. Student organizations must submit receipts for grants by April 30. Any unclaimed grant funds
may be used for LT scholarships or to defray Post Prom expenses. Kate Brogan plans to invite Dr. Kilrea
and Mr. Franson to speak at March meeting, but expressed concern that low attendance at meetings
would be a problem.
New Business: Think about board position for next year. Erin and Amy will be co-president next year .
Board and committee positions need to be reviewed. Work on Registration coordinator
PTC by-laws need to be updated. Nancy O’Brien offered to review by-laws and make suggestions for
changes for March meeting. Among the items to be considered is a reduction in the number of PTC
meetings during the school year.
