Children
No children from this marriage, but Genevieve’s daughter Vivian subsequently used
the name Meilike.
Chronology
Ca 1882 birth, Minnesota
1900 – he would be about 18
Ca 1903 he marries for the first time
1910 –he would be about 20
1924
March 29: Neva DeWitt and Fred Melocki married in Seattle (King) WA;
Kenneth DeWitt was a witness; Vivienne DeWitt (my mother) was a guest,
age 6; mother used Fred’s name from then on (more or less) but it has always
been spelled Meilicke (on all records I’ve ever seen)
Did the record give his age or any other personal information about him?
Did the marriage indicate number of previous marriages?
Did they marry in Seattle (King Co.) or Pierce Co. (probably Tacoma)
From Washington State Digital Archives
http://www.digitalarchives.wa.gov/
Note: not found under Dewitt, but under De Witt
This is the marriage certificate. We want to find the application for a license, which
was issued the same day, also in Pierce Co., although both parties res Kin Co.
Who is Cora Lindaas?
This is what we want
https://familysearch.org/search/catalog/1924073?availability=Family%20History
%20Library
but there is a problem with the online (and maybe film) images for 1917-1927. We
may have to write to Pierce Co. Washington to order… use
http://vitalrec.com/ for information.
1924-25 Vivienne Meilicke enters 1st grade @ Central School, Tacoma
Vivienne continued to use the name Meilicke.
I wonder if he adopted her. For some reason I doubt it, but it is something to keep in
mind.
1925-26 Vivienne attends 2nd grade in Oakland/Long Beach
1926-28 Vivienne attends 3rd & 4th grades in Spokane, Toledo, Flint
1928-29 Vivienne attends 5th grade in Wenatchee, WA; Bend, OR; Oakland
What is going on?? Are they moving because of the husband’s job?
1929
Nov. 23: Kenneth DeWitt married Mary J. DeWitt in Klamath Fall OR; Mary
deserted him about a month later and refused to live with him
1929-30 Vivienne attends 6th grade in Oakland, Klamath Falls
1930 Seattle, King Co. Washington
US Census (enumerated April 1): Vivian Aneidicka (11) daughter,
enumerated with Frank Aneidicka (head), Genevieve Aneidicka, Kenneth
DeWitt (step-son) and Paul Phillips (boarder) in Seattle (Paul was actually a
friend of Kenneth’s, maybe from SD) – this recent finding adds a name that no
one in the family has EVER encountered. My guess is that Genevieve was the
informant and did as she usually did, i.e., create a family unit and use whatever
name suited her purpose. By the time I found this record, mother had died and
I couldn’t check with her.
I believe this is Frank R. Meilicka
He is age 48, b. [ ca 1882] Minnesota, first married at age 21—i.e. about 1903
father b. Germany mo b. France occupation: Carpenter – Buildings. Kenneth
is a Tallyman at a lumber mill.
Res. Seattle, King Co.,Washington 160 Merclr(??)St. – I think it is probably
Mercer St., which is on the next page.
US Census: cannot find Paul Roberts
cannot find Fred Melocki or Fred Meilicke
1930-33 Vivienne attends 7th-9th grades in Klamath Falls
1931: Kenneth DeWitt divorces Mary J. DeWitt at Klamath Falls, OR
– any information on why the frequent moves? Related to work of Fred/Frank?
We need to find city directories for those cities to learn if Fred/Frank continues
to be with them during these years.
Work backwards with city directories.
This microfilm set is available at Allen Co. Public Library in Fort Wayne
http://mlr.com/servlet/ItemDetailServlet?region=9&imprint=000&titleCode=PS
M158&type=4&cf=p&id=172673
Here are the directories in the set
http://microformguides.gale.com/Data/Download/3065000A.pdf
There will be more city directories in local libraries.
Sometime in 1933 the family moves back to Tacoma. Does Fred/Frank move with
them? (assuming he has been with them up to now)
1933-34 Vivienne attends Lincoln High School, Tacoma, WA
1934-36 Vivienne attends Stadium High School, Tacoma, WA; graduates
It appears that Fred/Frank died (or left) prior to 1936 (city directory – found it
using Linkpendium – it is in Word Vital Records, which has no browse function,
making it difficult to use their city directories without exact spelling of name. I
lucked out in finding her under DeWitt.
1939 April 7: Kenneth DeWitt married Naomi Gregory, Tacoma, WA
1940 April 5: Genevieve died, Tacoma, Pierce Co. WA (burial at Mountain View
Cemetery, Tacoma)
US Census (enumerated April 11): Kenneth A. DeWitt (35 yrs - but it should
have been 38) enumerated with Naomi DeWitt and Vivienne Meilicke (21)
(mother) @ 923 Fawcett Ave., Tacoma WA
US Census: cannot find Paul Roberts
cannot find Frank Aneidicka (nor in a census before 1930)
In 1947 a Fred R. Meilike dies in Washington; this Fred R. Meilike has wife Sara
Ellen, who he married in 1899.
Presumably he is NOT this Fred R. Meilicke, who was b. ca 1879 Minnesota and died
in Spokane. He may have been related, but I’ve not found any evidence of that. I did
a brief side search on him.
