SOFTWARE COMPUTER APPLICATION USE COMPUTER POLICY The Internet and online environment consists of information on a wide range of topics provided by millions of individuals and organizations around the world. Not all information found on the Internet is accurate, complete, up-to-date, legal or philosophically acceptable to all individuals. Internet Disclaimer Internet users are responsible for evaluating the accuracy of material found on the Internet CASB employs antivirus software, but it cannot warrant that its Web site, server, or any other Web site accessed by Internet users is free of viruses or other harmful components. Rules and Responsibilities for use of Software and Internet Applications Use of the schools equipment for the transmission, dissemination, and/or duplication of information contained in any proposed or approved software application must comply with this policy and in no way violate any of the schools policies, The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) or any local, State or federal laws. The school expects all users to comply with such laws, including but not limited to those related to copyright, computer hacking, and child pornography. Persons who violate these Rules and Responsibilities may receive penalties that may begin with but may not be limited to a warning from the school and can include termination, or legal action that could result in arrest. Request for Approval of use of Software or Internet Applications All schools and departments are asked to adhere to the software approval procedure outlined below. The purpose of this procedure is to ensure that schools and departments acquire software (whether by purchase, grant, or donation) that is compatible with our existing technology. Software purchased without this approval will not be installed or supported. The Director of IT and the School Superintendent will review the request from a technical standpoint to determine if our workstations, desktop and laptop computers, meet the vendor's recommended operating system and hardware requirements. The Committee will also determine: a. b. c. d. e. if our servers are capable of running the application. if the network infrastructure is capable of supporting the application. if the software will function as promised. if similar software is already in use in the district. if there is an alternate method to obtain the desired result The appropriate individual or department(s) may also be asked to provide input in this process. We ask that you also use the process below if you are seeking to upgrade to a new version of a previously acquired software program. Process: 1. Please complete the Software Request for Approval form. 2. We recommend you contact the vendor or visit the website to get the most current information for completing the form. If possible try to secure a full functioning evaluation copy of the software. 3. Submit the form via email to rjohnson@careeracademysb.com and pschlottman@careeracademysb.com BE SURE TO INCLUDE YOUR SCHOOL OR DEPARTMENT IN THE SUBJECT LINE. 4. In addition, if you did obtain an evaluation copy of the software, send it as well with a copy of your form. Your request will be evaluated and you will be contacted within 10 working days upon receipt of the Software Request for Approval form and evaluation software (if applicable).
