Reportager Award Guidelines and terms and conditions
Please read the following terms and conditions. By signing the entry form you are agreeing to
the terms and conditions.
Reportager in partnership with Moleskine calls for submissions for documentary,
journalistic reportage drawing projects, which examine and explore an issue,
location, or subject through a series of drawings or made images. Collaborative
projects where an artist and journalist work together are also encouraged.
Please read these guidelines and terms and conditions carefully before submitting
work for the award. The guidelines will assist you in completing the entry form and
you will be asked to agree to the Terms and Conditions before you submit an entry.
By completing the submission you have accepted these Terms and Conditions.
The awards are international and open to artists and illustrators 18+ working in any
medium, context or geographical location, (excluding solely photographic)
Entries cannot be submitted by current members of staff of UWE, Moleskine or
members of the Judging panel.
Deadline for submissions: 11.59pm 31st March 2015
Who Can Enter
The reportager award is open to artists and illustrators 18 and above with published
or non-published works produced since Jan 2014 working in any medium, (excluding
solely photographic) context or geographical location.
Entrants can only enter one category either the student category, professional
category or Moleskine Special Mention award but not more than one.
Student entrants must be undergraduate students, post-graduate students or
graduates within one year of graduation. Professional entrants are all other
professional artists or illustrators aged 18 and above.
Work must be entered by the creator of the work
What can be entered?
A body of work which is considered an example of drawn reportage, documentary or
visual journalism. A series of images which record, scrutinizes or examines an issue,
activity or location using drawing, painting, collage, assemblage or a combination of
these.
Work entered for the award must have been created or published since 1 January
2014
Professional entries which are either commercially commissioned or the product of
self-funded, self-initiated or work privately funded for example through sponsorship
or arts organizations etc.
Work must be entered into one of the 3 categories.

Moleskine Special Mention
Reportager Professional Prize
The winning entry will be awarded £600
In addition to this Moleskine reserve the right to commission the winning
artist/journalist to report on an event (timing, location and event to be at Moleskines
discretion) Travel expenses Accommodation and subsistence up to the value of
£1700 will be available.
Prize: £600
Expenses: Max: £1700 (includes travel accommodation and subsistence) To be
awarded retrospectively following satisfactory attendance and completion of the
commission.
Reportager Student Prize
The winning entry will be awarded £300
In addition to this Moleskine reserve the right to commission the winning
artist/journalist to report on an event (timing location and event to be at Moleskines
discretion) Travel expenses Accommodation and subsistence up to the value of
£1300 will be available.

Expenses: Max: £1300 (includes travel accommodation and subsistence) To be
awarded retrospectively following satisfactory attendance and completion of the
commission.
Moleskine Special Mention
To be eligible for this mention, work has to be produced in a Moleskine notebook/
journal. The selected project will receive a full-year Moleskine essentials pack.
All entries produced on a Moleskine journal/notebook are given the opportunity to
donate the original journal/notebook to Lettera27 a non-profit organization supported
by Moleskine and be eligible for inclusion in the ‘myDetour project’, exhibited
internationally.
Reportager or Moleskine reserve the right to cancel the competition or any element
thereof should insufficient entries be received or any other circumstance arise that
makes it necessary for Reportager or Moleskine to cancel the competition or any part
of the competition.
An exhibition of physical artwork will be hosted initially at the University of the West
of England F block gallery (other venues to be confirmed.) A digital exhibition online
and winning entries will be published on the projects page of the Reportager website.
Work selected for the Awards Exhibition and subsequently the category awards will
need to be framed by the artist (guidelines for framing will be made available) The
work will need to be sent to the award organizer by the date Friday1st May postage
paid and be collected from the organizer within 1 month of the end of the exhibition.
The First round Judging will be done digitally online by a panel comprised of experts
in the field. The subsequent second round of judging will take place at UWE Bower
Ashton Campus in Bristol and comprise of physical artwork. Judges will meet as a
panel and view the shortlisted work in each category and select the final Category
Winners. Category Winning Work is that which the judges consider to be an original
response and to have achieved an exceptional level of artistic and contextual
understanding of the subject.
The award winners will be announced at the Awards exhibition held at UWE Bower
Ashton F block gallery in Bristol UK. All Category Winning entries and shortlisted
work will be included in an exhibition at UWE F block gallery in 2015.
It will be a condition of entering the competition that selected work is made available
for the exhibition either in its original format or high quality prints and framed.
There will be no cost to exhibitors for entry or inclusion in the exhibition. The entrants
will have to agree to their work being made available for publication on the
Reportager website. The entrant is also encouraged to allow Reportager and
Moleskine to use their work for the promotion of the competition, exhibition, and
awards, and grants Reportager and Moleskine a non-exclusive license to reproduce
the entry in print or digital form for promotion of the award.

Shortlisting

First round Judging is done digitally online.

The second round of judging physical artwork takes place at UWE in Bristol

Judges meet in person and view the shortlisted work in their category and
select the Category Winners.

Category Winning Work is that which the judges consider to have achieved
something exceptional.

The award winners are announced at the Awards exhibition at UWE in Bristol.

All Category Winning entries and shortlisted work will be included in the
exhibition at UWE in 2015

It is a condition of entering the competition that selected work is made
available for the exhibition either in its original format or high quality print and
framed.
Additional Terms
 There is no cost to exhibitors for entry and inclusion in the exhibition. Framing
and postage to and from the venue to be at the cost of the individual artist. All
work is sent at the owners risk and it is up to the artist to ensure work is
properly packaged to avoid breakages or damage. All work is received as
found. Artists may wish to insure their work against accidental damage.
Reportager, Moleskine or UWE accept no responsibility for work damaged in
transit.

The entrant agrees that winners and shortlisted entries and the name of the
creator of the work and their contact details may be published on the
reportager and Moleskine website.

The entrant agrees that shortlisted entries may be used by reportager and
Moleskine for the promotion of the competition, exhibition, and awards and
thus grants Reportager or Moleskine a non-exclusive license to reproduce
and publish the work in print or digital form for promotion of the award.

The entrant confirms and agrees that any shortlisted entry is available for reuse on the Reportager website without any restriction or request for financial
contribution.

All artwork included in the Awards Exhibition must be collected by the
deadline after the exhibition.

Reportager reserves the right to cancel the competition or any element
thereof should insufficient entries be received or any other circumstance arise
that makes it necessary for Reportager or Moleskine to cancel the
competition or any part of the competition.
Submission:
Format and medium: Drawing, painting, text and image, mixed media and collage
or montage, etc. We are looking for original projects, which are journalistic and
documentary in nature and are created from original primary research sourced on
location by the artist.
Download an entry/submission form from the reportager site. Please fill in all the
fields. This includes information about yourself a description about your project
including your process and methodology. Sign the form and agreement and send this
with your project by wetransfer.
Digital format for initial selection: No more than a maximum of 5 representative jpeg
images from the project.
